Udaipur: Three family members walking to a local temple were crushed to death when a dumper vehicle overturned upon them after being hit by a trailer truck on Udaipur-Pindwara highway Monday afternoon. The driver of the trailer truck also died while the driver of the dumper vehicle was seriously injured in the accident that took place at Malwa intersection near Bekeriya.
DySP Kotda Circle, Rajendra Singh Rathore, said the driver of the trailer truck lost control of the vehicle when the dumper vehicle in front suddenly applied brakes at a speed breaker.
After hitting the dumper from behind, the trailer fell off the road. The dumper overturned upon a group of family members who were walking on the road divider. Three of the pedestrians and the driver of the trailer died in the accident.
The deceased pedestrians were identified as Sovani, Hadmi and Mashru, residents of Tiloi village in Kotda region. All three belonged to the same family and were going to visit a temple at the Malwa chouraha, police said.
Trailer driver Balvinder Kumar, a resident of Rambagh Mohalla in Hoshiarpur of Punjab, died in the accident while the driver of the dumper was seriously injured and has been referred to Udaipur.
SP Yogesh Goyal, Kotda DSP Rajendra Singh Rathore, Bekaria SHO Dhanpat Singh along with police personnel reached the spot and cleared the traffic jam created by the accident. The bodies of the deceased were kept in the mortuary of Bekaria hospital.
