SI, station master killed in separate road accidents
Varanasi: A police sub-inspector and a station master were killed in separate road accidents in Sonbhadra and Chandauli districts late on Saturday.
Sonbhadra ASP (headquarters) Kalu Singh on Sunday said that SI Umesh Rai (52), a native of Ghazipur district, was currently posted at Windomganj police station. On Saturday he was heading to Police Lines in Churk area in his personal car to attend a training programme.
When he was passing through a forest near Saudih village under Hathinala police station, a speeding heavy vehicle hit his car after which it dashed a roadside tree.
Later, Hathinala police rushed injured Rai to a local hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, said the ASP adding that a case was registered against the unidentified vehicle owner in this connection and the body was handed over to Rai’s family after postmortem and paying homage at Police Lines.
In Chandauli district, Sharda Ranjan (51), the station master of Matkutta Sahroi railway station under Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (Mughalsarai) division, died when a speeding vehicle hit his motorcycle and fled the scene near Bathawar village under Kotwali police station on Saturday night. Ranjan dwelt in a house at Alinagar crossing in Sakaldiha township with his family. The incident occurred when he was heading to his his office. Police sent the body for postmortem examination.
