NEW DELHI: Several aspiring candidates who wanted to contest the upcoming election in the capital have approached Delhi high court after being denied permission to file nomination papers.
Complete coverage on Delhi electionsIn their plea, the aspiring candidates have also demanded an enquiry on the manner the candidates were dealt with by the election officer. The candidates alleged that the officer allowed chief minister Arvind Kejriwal inside the election office out of turn.
Their plea urges the court to issue directions to poll panel to give them time to file their nomination papers again and also seeks a probe on the mode and manner the candidates were dealt with by the election office.
It further seeks appropriate guidelines to facilitate the smooth filing of the nomination papers by all candidates from all walks of Indian society.
The plea argues that the grounds of rejection of the nomination papers are "flimsy non germane".
The 11 petitioners told the court that in the wake of their democratic mind and a collective decision under a movement "Chaloo Chunaav Laade", they decided to individually contest the polls against the sitting chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and others.
