NEW DELHI: Addressing a crowd at Rithala in northwest Delhi on Monday, Union home minister Amit Shah dared chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to make his stance on the Shaheen Bagh protests clear.
“Kejriwalji, are you in favour of action against Sharjeel Imam or not? Are you are with the people of Shaheen Bagh or not? Please tell the people of Delhi,” Shah said, adding that Delhi Police has booked Imam, a Jawaharlal Nehru University student, on the charge of sedition for his comment of “trying to cut the chicken’s neck” and break the northeast from the rest of the country.

He also dared the AAP chief to visit the anti-CAA protest site so that people of Delhi could decide whom to vote for in the assembly elections. “You people say you are with Shaheen Bagh. If you have the guts then go and sit with them. And let Delhi decide,” said Shah.
He also took a dig at Aam Aadmi Party chief’s tweet rebuttals to his various statements. “I talk about water, you tweet immediately. I talk about electricity, about buses, about CCTV cameras, and you tweet immediately. Today, too, you should. Two years back, there were ‘tukde tukde’ slogans at JNU. Now you should clarify whether you are giving permission to put those who shouted the slogans in jail?...Tell people of Delhi,” Shah said, alleging that the Delhi government was not allowing prosecution of those who raised the slogans.

Earlier, in his speech, the senior BJP leader said that by voting for BJP, people will ensure safety and security of the country and the Capital. “I am here to appeal for Rithala candidate Manish Chaudhary. I see this crowd and can say for sure that he will be your MLA. It will decide both Delhi ki ‘dasha’ (state) and ‘disha’ (direction)”.
Accusing the Delhi chief minister of spreading lies, he said he was stooping to very low level of politics. “Governments usually get awards for good roads, water, electricity, agricultural, health or industrial development. The Kejriwal government didn’t get a single award. But one award they got was for lying. They are No. 1. If a contest for telling lies is held, Kejriwal will be awarded the first prize,” Shah said.
Later, the BJP star campaigner addressed another nukkad sabha at Mahavir Enclave for Janakpuri candidate Ashish Sood. He led the crowd with ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ chants even as it began drizzling. “I appeal to you to give Modiji the Delhi government this time. In five years, we will make it the world’s best capital city…Kejriwal said Yamuna water will be cleaned. Has it happened? (The crowd said ‘no’) Go to Allahabad Kumbh and take a dip, Kejriwal babu. Modiji and Yogiji have done such great work, go and see.”
During both meetings, the home minister also spoke on Section 370, Kashmir, surgical strikes, health schemes of Modi government, regularisation of unauthorised colonies besides other issues.
