NEW DELHI: The narrow lanes of east Delhi’s
Patparganj,
Kondli and
Trilokpuri were swarming with residents and
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters as chief minister
Arvind Kejriwal’s three
roadshows took place in these areas on Monday evening.
Kejriwal, atop a yellow open jeep, took out total five roadshows in five constituencies in the city on Monday.
Holding placards in support of the government schemes, including free healthcare and electricity, AAP supporters danced to the tunes of “Lage Raho Kejriwal” as the chief minister waved and flashed the victory sign at them.
Hundreds of children too came down to the streets and clung on to the railings of their houses to catch a glimpse of their CM.
At all these three locations, people grooved to the dhol beats as they waited for Kejriwal to arrive and take part in the roadshows. Kejriwal was campaigning for the party candidates in Patparganj, Kondli and Trilokpuri constituencies--Manish Sisodia, Kuldeep Kumar and Rohit Kumar Mehrauliya, respectively.
While many jostled to click a selfie with Kejriwal and the AAP candidates during the roadshows, several others took photographs from their balconies.
The people whom TOI spoke to said that sanitation and encroachment were some of the major problems plaguing their area. But nothing would stop them from voting for AAP, they added.
“We have sought a solution to the problem of haphazard parking, and are sure that this government will take measures to improve the situation in our area. We have faith in our CM,” said Kailash Kumar, a resident of Patparganj.
“My children’s school has seen a major facelift in the past few years. No government earlier thought about improving schools and education sector. This government has worked for the poor and it is my responsibility to vote for them,” said Vicky Gaba from Trilokpuri.
When asked about the problem of potholes, residents said that they were confident that AAP would get all of them filled soon. “Earlier, the condition of the roads was much worse. It was all mud. Now, at least the roads are walkable. This government has made the place liveable for us, and we will make sure that we bring them to power again. We are sure that they would work for our welfare,” said Shashi from Kondli village.
