BJP wanted RSS man Revanth Reddy as state Congress chief: Akbaruddin Owaisi

The AIMIM party, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, is trying to sway Muslim voters in Telangana away from the Congress party by highlighting its alleged RSS background. Muslims make up 13% of the state's population and had largely supported the BRS in the previous elections. However, the improved performance of the Congress in the Karnataka polls has led to speculation of a split in the Muslim vote. The Owaisi brothers have been criticizing the Congress and its state president, Revanth Reddy, accusing him of having affiliations with the RSS, BJP, ABVP, and TDP.

HYDERABAD: Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM, an friendly ally of BRS in Telangana, is making efforts to wean away Muslims from possibly looking at the Congress in the ensuing assembly elections by branding it as a party which is led by a leader with RSS background.
Muslims comprise 13% of the total population in the state and a majority of them had supported the BRS in the 2018 elections.
The talk in political circles is that there is a possibility of a split in Muslim vote-bank in the ensuing elections after the Congress graph improved due to its victory over BJP in Karnataka polls.
Both Asaduddin and his younger brother and floor leader in the assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi, addressing public meetings at various places in the Old City on Thursday, trained their guns mainly against the Congress, more so against its state president A Revanth Reddy.
The Owaisi brothers made it a point to explain mainly to the minority community that Revanth has RSS, ABVP, BJP and TDP background.
Akbaruddin went to the extent of saying that BJP has entered into a secret deal with Congress to make Revanth as TPCC chief. "Now, RSS and VHP too will work for Congress," he alleged.
On his part, Asaduddin appealed to the Muslims not to trust the Congress which is responsible for lack of representation of Muslims in state assemblies and parliament. "It was the Congress which kept Muslims out of the reservation ambit," he said.
Akbaruddin also challenged Revanth to take an oath at Bhagyalakshmi temple at Charminar whether or not he belonged to the RSS.
