Two prestigious festival laurels for Shekhar Ghosh’s first Bengali film
Shekhar Ghosh is in happy space and why not! Hist first Bengali directorial ‘Syndicate’ has been officially selected at the prestigious 42nd Durban International Film Festival 2021 and the Lift Off Global Network - Session 2021.
After his two previous Hindi feature films ‘Sooper Se Ooper’ and ‘Chowky’ the filmmaker is now all set for his first Bengali film, a crime thriller.
The film has quite an ensemble cast including Shaheb Bhattacherjee, Sauraseni Maitra, Shantilal Mukherjee, Sudip Mukherjee, Chandan Sen, Prantik Banerjee, Pratiksha Sen, and others in pivotal roles.
“My first Bengali film Syndicate is getting so much recognition at several international festivals gives me a lot of confidence to make many more Bengali films along with my Hindi films and all this was possible due to the amazingly talented cast and crew who worked brilliantly on the film, said Shekhar.
Speaking about the film he says, “My thoughts, while I wrote the film, was drawn from my life where I realized how detached I had become from reality. Reading a headline that said thousands of crores have been swindled by someone or 36 people were killed somewhere, held my attention for less than a minute, and then I went on with my life. I felt that has become our new normal. Sad yet true. Motivated by this thought, the film was conceived as a gritty fast-paced thiller with international Sensibilities with a strong Bengal connect.”
