A city sports club celebrated
Rabindranath Tagore’s 161st birth anniversary with a cultural programme curated by percussionist
Pt Subhen Chatterjee. The evening began with storytelling session by elocutionist
Raya Bhattacharya, which was followed by an invocation to the poet through a musical confluence designed by Pt Subhen himself. While Sutapa Chatterjee sang Mone Holo with elan, Chandraboli Rudra Datta sang Jete Jete Ekla Pothe much to the guests’ delight.
The narrative for the event, woven by culinary revivalist Subhajit Bhattacharya, was beautifully read by theatre actor Gautam Purakayastha. Guest artiste Dipanjan Paul enthralled everyone with his rendition of Pother Shesh Kothaye.
A soulful recital of Poth Diye Ke Jaye Go Chole by interdisciplinary artiste,
Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee was much appreciated. The other artistes who performed were Prabal Dasgupta, Rajjyoti Ghosh,
Anusree Seth,
Sudarshan Ghosh and many others.
“I tried to work on the soundscape of each song with my notion of Rabindrasangeet, imbibing the ecstasy and silence of the concept of ‘paath’ in Tagore's writings,” signed off Pt Subhen, the brain behind the show.
