Rahul meets victims' kin, assures them of 'all help'
HATHRAS: Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday met family members of victims of the stampede that killed 121 people in UP's Hathras earlier this week. Before meeting them in Hathras, Gandhi made a stop at Aligarh and met the kin of victims from that district too.
He condoled with family members of the deceased Manju Devi, 35, and her six-year-old son Pankaj.
Shanti Devi, the sister-in-law of Manju who'd died in Hathras, said, "Rahul Gandhi assured us help. He said he would help us in every possible way; he said the fight for the victims' families will be resolved."
In Aligarh, the senior Congress leader visited another family that had lost a dear one. Gandhi then reached Hathras, where he met the families of Asha Devi, Munni Devi, and Omwati.
After meeting the families, Gandhi said, "It is a matter of grief that so many families have suffered, so many people lost their lives." He added, "I don't want to speak from a political prism, but there have been some lapses on the part of the administration. There have been mistakes, which should be identified. A probe should be ordered into it." He also called on UP CM Yogi Adityanath to provide immediate compensation to affected families.
