Anil Charanjeett opens up on working on the sets of Thai Massage

Actor Anil Charanjeett has been enjoying the spotlight since the trailer for his upcoming film, Thai Massage, was unveiled. He is loved for his on-screen magic. From donning different characters to acing diverse genres, this young actor has always amused moviegoers. While the actor is buoyed up to welcome Thai Massage to theaters, we got a chance to get in touch with him and churn out a juicy conversation about him and the film.
Your new film, Thai Massage, is all set to hit the multiplexes; how would you describe your journey for this film?
Every project has its own journey and is unique in itself; Thai massage is no less. I was destined to be part of this film. So right from getting a call from anti-casting to sitting with Mangesh sir for readings and discussions and then shooting for the first time in Thailand, it was an amazing experience. Working with Gajraj sir and Mangesh sir was a treat in itself. I had so much fun and learned a lot throughout the Thai Massage journey.
Can you tell us about the character that you are playing in Thai Massage and how it has impacted your acting skills?
The name of my character is Jhandu Singh, who is a taxi driver in Bangkok and knows in and out of the city. He is a wannabe rapper, and this is the first character about whom I’m telling the background in the film itself. As far as impact is concerned, a character never impacts acting skills, acting skills impact your character. The challenge is to find the similarities. Sometimes you have those traits inside you or you develop them.
How would you describe the process behind donning the character?
The moment you get the brief from the casting director, your character starts taking shape. I believe in just feeling it and living in the moment. Every character is a living, breathing person with normal human traits but in different situations. So learn, forget, and just flow when the camera is on.

Do you have any memories to share from the sets of Thai Massage?
I remember that the most challenging part was driving on the streets of Bangkok for the first time with my taxi being rigged with a camera, and on top of that, I had to coordinate with the team on a walkie-talkie, follow a policeman riding in front of me, and operate the music system for singing the rap. So I had to drive with caution. I must say that I, the camera, the people, and Gajraj sir were safe.
You have already worked in different genres, including comedy. How do you think this film is distinct from others?
Every film is different from the last one, but this one is definitely way different from the others while still being relatable. I think people are bored with the old stories of 'boy meets girl' and 'all’s well that ends well'. Now people are more interested in relatable stories. Nowadays people have an attention span of 15 seconds, thanks to reels. So to make them sit for 2 to 3 hours is tough, but this film will make them sit throughout.

What are your plans for the industry in the near future?
My plan is to keep pushing myself to do better. The opportunities are immense in web series and films, nationally and internationally. I definitely want to be a part of bigger and better projects in a meatier and bigger role. Who knows, I might end up being a leading actor in the near future. Dream big and keep going.
