Bad is the new good: Kabir Duhan Singh on playing antagonists
Kabir Duhan Singh, who is back in Bengaluru after a year and a half, says it’s always a pleasure to meet Kannadigas and work in Kannada films. The actor was in Bengaluru, shooting for Rajvardan’s Gajarama.
“I heard several Kannada film scripts during COVID. But nothing struck a chord with me as people’s perception about films has changed a lot post-COVID.
But Gajarama had that oomph factor. My introduction has been shot so beautifully. Director Sunil Kumar, who has worked under Yograj Bhat and Duniya Suri, is very creative. He speaks very less, but his vision is beyond words. He is always experimenting on sets and takes my opinion when it comes to improvisation of a scene, which is a big thing for me as I have a language barrier,” he says.
Speaking about the relevance of villains in films, Kabir says, “Ramayan itself is incomplete without Ravan! So, a grey character is a must when telling a story. But these days if you see, bad boy is the new good boy! Take KGF and Tamil movie Vikram, for example. And I am not at all worried about being typecast in films. I enjoy playing a baddie, that shade of grey looks good on me. Also, I always go for content, no matter how big or small the film is. Post COVID, content is the new hero. As long as the content is good, I am happy playing a bad boy.” Gajarama is Kabir’s 57th film. He has seven more films, including Bollywood projects, in his kitty.

Temple run
Kabir visited Gaali Anjaneya temple during his visit to Bengaluru. “I am a very spiritual person. Our film’s hero, Rajvardhan, told me he often visits that temple and spoke highly about it. So, when I expressed interest, he arranged everything for me. It was an out-of-the-world experience,” he says.
“Since I work in many industries, I get to travel a lot. So, if I come across any famous temple, I make sure I visit the temple and seek blessings. I was lucky enough to visit Rameshwaram temple recently. With that, I have finished seven Jyotirlingas,” Kabir says.
