Actor Jitendra Joshi, along with director Samit Kakkad, musician Dub Sharma, Sarang Sathaye and others have come up with a song called Police Rap, which is a tribute to the #CoronaWarriors serving on the frontlines. With lyrics like – ‘Thodi izzat dikha, ek salute toh maar.. Policewala bhi hai insaan, who bhi padta beemar’– the song has struck a chord and has been the talk of the town ever since it released online on Monday.
Speaking to us, Jitendra, who has penned the lyrics and sung the song, shares, “I was reading about attacks on cops across the country and it really angered me.
How can people not respect these heroes who are working for our safety? The lyrics were a reaction to these incidents.” After he discussed the lyrics with actor and content creator Sarang Sathaye, they thought of roping in a composer to create a song. “That’s when someone suggested Siddharth aka Dub Sharma’s name. We got in touch with Dub (known for the Azadi song from Gully Boy) through Vijay Maurya (writer of Gully Boy). He loved the lyrics and came on board,” adds Jitendra.

The entire team, including Jitendra, Samit, Dub and editors Ashish Mhatre and Apurva Motiwale Sahai, worked from their homes on this project. Samit, who put together the video of the song, shares, “Initially, I had thought of taking permission to go out and gather footage for the video, but Jitu was clear that we won’t flout rules, even if we got permission. So, I scouted for relevant footage and in a week, we had the raw files ready.”

Jitendra and Samit are of the unanimous opinion that every frontline worker, including healthcare staff, sanitation workers and policemen, are heroes for all of us. “Though this song is about the policemen, the sentiment is similar for all our #CoronaWarriors. They too have families, they are human beings, and they are bound to fall ill. Many of them have even lost their lives to COVID-19. These heroes are putting their lives in danger and if we cannot appreciate that, shame on us,” says Jitendra.
