Superstar Rajinikanth has a legion of fans, thanks to the versatile roles he has portrayed on screen over the years. He also has colleagues who consider him as family. For instance, late Sridevi. Back in 2011, when Rajinikanth was hospitalized, Sridevi took a fast for a week.
In 2011, Rajinikanth faced health issues during the filming of ‘Rana’. Reports indicated that the superstar's condition was critical, prompting his transfer to a hospital in Singapore for treatment.
During the first day of filming ‘Rana’ Rajinikanth was admitted to Isabella Hospital in Chennai due to exhaustion and vomiting. After a hospital stay of nearly 10 days, he was discharged but was readmitted to Ramachandra Medical Centre on May 14.
According to Satyanarayana Rao Gaikwad, the actor's elder brother, Rajinikanth's admission was due to complications from his strict diet regimen aimed at weight loss. During this period, there were speculations that the superstar might have experienced withdrawal symptoms after giving up alcohol, alongside the effects of drastic weight reduction and dietary changes.
As Rajinikanth's condition worsened, his close friend Sridevi was worried and she offered prayers to Shirdi's Sai Baba. She even observed a seven-day fast, for his swift recovery. She visited the Sai Baba temple in Pune and prayed for his recovery.
