I grew up watching films, thrilled to make my debut finally: Yash Puri
A all set to make his silver screen debut with director Arun Bharathi’s Cheppalani Undi, Yash Puri says he’s more excited than nervous. “I am a Hyderabadi boy who studied acting and honed my skills doing theatre in Mumbai. I also went to numerous auditions before I landed the lead role in this film and can’t wait to see how the audience will recieve me,” he says.
His journey from a budding cricketer to an actor makes for an interesting story.
“I represented Hyderabad at various professional levels including U-19, U-23 and U-25. I was also one of the Ranji Trophy probables in 2016,” he explains, adding, “But then I stumbled upon acting because I wanted to try something new. I grew up watching numerous films per week. And the more advertisements, short films, road shows and plays I did, the more I fell in love with it.”
In Cheppalani Undi, Yash plays a journalist who wakesup one morning to realise he can only speak a language that no one understands. “I did a gibberish play when I was in Mumbai that helped me get into the groove to play this character. I feel lucky because this role gave me the opportunity to go all out with my expressions and body language,” explains the actor, who shares the screen with 2018 Miss India finalist Stefy Patel in the movie.
The actor is thrilled to have worked with established actors like Sunil, Ali, Murali Sharma and Satya in his debut film. “There was never a day where I was made to feel like I don’t belong on-set. Through this journey I’ve faced rejection, shot in extreme temperatures in Kashmir and spoken a made-up language that’s hard to decipher. I hope that my hard work will pay off,” he signs off.
Produced by Vakada Anjan Kumar and Yogesh Kumar under Super Good Films and Hamstech Films banner, the film releases today.
