NEW DELHI: Almost 23,000 passengers — all of IndiGo except about 900 of SpiceJet — have so far been impacted by the closure of Delhi Airport’s terminal 1 last Friday. Of them, about 12,500 were accommodated on alternate flights and the others will get a refund. In all 86 flights — 71 of IndiGo (out of 72 the airline had to and from TI) and 15 of SpiceJet (all operations of TI)— have shifted from T1 where operations have been indefinitely suspended.
Union aviation minister Rammohan Naidu on Friday inspected IGIA’s airport operations control centre (AOCC) and held a meeting with senior official of various agencies like DGCA, BCAS, DIAL and airlines.
Naidu reviewed “current operations and passenger handling following the transition of flights from T1 to T2 & T3. A comprehensive assessment was conducted, involving detailed discussions on ensuring smooth functioning and deploying additional manpower to manage increased passenger flow. The DGCA confirmed the activation of war rooms, facilitating close coordination between DIAL and the airlines. Naidu advised all stakeholders to maintain rigorous standards to ensure seamless operations and prioritize passenger safety,” the ministry said in a statement.
Giving impact of T1 closure, the statement said 21,690 IndiGo passengers have been impacted. Of them, 12,194 were sent on alternate flights and the remaining 9,431 are getting refunds. IndiGo had 72 daily flights to and from T1 of which 71 have been moved to T2 and T3.
SpiceJet’s 925 passenger have been impacted of which 250 got alternate travel arrangements and the rest are being issued refunds. The airline operated 15 daily flights to and from TI all of which have been shifted to T3. “All SpiceJet flights to/from Delhi will operate from Terminal 3, Delhi Airport, till further notice,” the airline said on X.
