'Follow Ambedkar not Babas': Mayawati's appeal to poor, Dalits post Hathras stampede

Mayawati adviseD the poor and Dalits to follow Bhimrao Ambedkar's path instead of relying on Babas like Bhole Baba. "Rather, by following the path shown by Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, they will have to take power in their own hands and change their own destiny, that is, they will have to join their party BSP, only then they can avoid incidents like Hathras in which 121 people died, which is very worrying," she said.

NEW DELHI: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday urged the poor and the Dalits to not get misguided by religious leaders and follow the path shown by Bhimrao Ambedkar to deal with their "poverty". This came in the light of Hathras stampede at Bhole Baba's satsang that claimed lives of 121 people on July 2.
"The poor, Dalits and victims of the country should not increase their pain and suffering by getting misled by the superstition and hypocrisy of many Babas like Bhole Baba of Hathras to get rid of their poverty and all other problems, this is the advice," Mayawati said in a post on X.

"Rather, by following the path shown by Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, they will have to take power in their own hands and change their own destiny, that is, they will have to join their party BSP, only then they can avoid incidents like Hathras in which 121 people died, which is very worrying," she added.
The BRS leader demanded a strict action against Bhole Baba.

"In the Hathras case, strict action should be taken against Baba Bhole and others who are guilty. Action should be taken against other such Babas as well. In this case, the government should not be lax in its political interests so that no more people have to lose their lives", she said.
Police have arrested six 'sevadars' who were part of the organizing committee for the 'satsang' held by Surajpal alias Narayan Sakar Hari alias Bhole Baba on July 2 in Fulrai village of Hathras.
