PM congratulates team on T20 WC win
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian cricket team on their victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, personally speaking to several players over the phone on Sunday. He praised their outstanding performances, particularly highlighting captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli, both of whom announced their retirement from T20 internationals post the win.

Modi commended Rohit Sharma for his exceptional leadership and notable T20 career. "You are excellence personified. Your aggressive mindset, batting, and captaincy have given a new dimension to the Indian team. Your T20 career will be remembered fondly. Delighted to have spoken to you earlier today," Modi conveyed to Sharma.
The PM also had high praise for Kohli, who was instrumental in the final match.
"Like the innings in the finals, you have anchored Indian batting splendidly. You've shone in all forms of the game. T20 cricket will miss you, but I am confident you'll continue to motivate the new generation of players," Modi told Kohli.
Modi singled out Hardik Pandya for his nerve-wracking final over and Suryakumar Yadav for his stunning boundary catch to dismiss David Miller, which proved pivotal in the match's outcome. He also commended Jasprit Bumrah for his significant contributions with the ball.
The PM expressed his gratitude towards head coach Rahul Dravid for his immense contributions to Indian cricket. He emphasised the excellent skill and spirit exhibited by the team throughout the tournament.
"The team's performance has filled the country with pride. Their dedication and hard work have been inspiring, and this victory is a testament to their relentless pursuit of excellence," he added.
