Furthermore, the release by Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations officer of Northeast Frontier Railways, stated that train number 12523, the New Jalpaiguri to New Delhi Superfast Express, has been rescheduled to depart at 12.00 hrs.

He was travelling to Bengal's Nadia district along with six of his family members to attend a wedding."From the window, I could see a horde of people rushing towards the train. I got down to find out what had happened," he said. The scene that unfolded before him was of chaos and confusion, as two carriages of another train had mounted the rear of Kanchenjunga Express.Only a few passengers were awake at the time of the accident. "Everyone in our coach was injured. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in our coach," he said.

How we take care of the security of railway tracks, the strength of tracks and signalling system, whether we have adequate manpower or not, there are several questions. Earlier, railway used to have a separate budget. The BJP merged it with general budget. Railway is the largest transport system in country. People prefer train journeys. We need to address many issues on priority. The Railway Minister must give priority to track and signal maintenance. They should extend all possible help for rehabilitation."

CPRO North East Frontier Railway Sabyasachi De said on the train accident near New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.

The Prime Minister's Office of India issued a statement regarding the recent railway accident in West Bengal. According to the PMO, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident will receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

The statement read, "PM Modi has announced that an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased in the railway mishap in West Bengal. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000."
