International Yoga Day 2024 Live Updates: 'Rains did not dampen spirit,' PM Modi shares more from Yoga Day pictures

On International Yoga Day 2024, sailors aboard India's aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, children, Navy, Army, and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel participated in yoga drills, with ITBP performing at high-altitude locations like Pangong Tso, Karzok, and Muguthang Sub Sector. The Ministry of Ayush also launched the "Yoga with Family" Video Contest, in partnership with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), to engage families globally in yoga and strengthen family bonds, with submissions due by June 30, 2024.

PM Modi posted, "The 10th International Yoga Day has been held at a great scale across the world thanks to the collective efforts of individuals, communities and organisations who came together and practised Yoga. It is clear that Yoga has become a unifying force, bringing together people across cultures and backgrounds. It is gladdening to see the youth participating in Yoga sessions with such zeal and dedication. I express gratitude to all those working to popularise Yoga. These efforts will go a long way in furthering unity and harmony. I am also happy to see an increase in the number of Yoga instructors whose expertise and passion is inspiring others to take up Yoga."

The 10th International Day of Yoga was celebrated in India, with diplomats, ambassadors, and embassies actively participating. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his deputies joined diplomatic community members in performing yoga at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a yoga event in Srinagar, while Union ministers participated in various sessions across New Delhi.

Several embassies, including those of the UK, USA, Israel, and Ukraine, shared photos and videos of their celebrations. German ambassador Philipp Ackermann highlighted yoga's introspective and connecting nature. The theme for this year was 'Yoga for Self and Society'. The International Day of Yoga was established by the UN in 2014, following a proposal by Modi, and aims to promote the global benefits of yoga.

Indian Army personnel performed Yoga on the occasion of International Yoga Day at Kaman Post near the Line of Control (LoC).

On the 10th International Yoga Day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh participated in a yoga programme with approximately 600 individuals, including Army Chief General Manoj Pandey, Lieutenant General Sanjay Mitra, senior officers, Agniveers, families, and children, at the Strike 1 Corps Headquarters training centre. Singh expressed pride in the global acceptance of yoga, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting India's cultural heritage worldwide.

"Yoga and meditation are part of our culture, which always has the spirit of 'Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramaya'. That is, we pray for the happiness and good health of all. We pray for the welfare of the world. This is the specialty of our civilisation. We believe in cooperation rather than the conflict of civilisations," he said.

On International Yoga Day, BSF jawans performed yoga on Jaisalmer's Sam Sand Dunes and at posts along the Indo-Pak border, highlighting yoga's physical and mental benefits. The event, led by BSF DIG Vikram Kunwar, aimed to promote unity, discipline, and awareness among jawans and the public. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also celebrated the day in Srinagar, urging everyone to integrate yoga into daily life, emphasizing its role in personal and societal well-being under the theme "Yoga for Self and Society."

The International Yoga Day was celebrated in Sikkim on Friday with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya taking part in a yoga session at Paljor stadium here. Speaking on the occasion, Acharya credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving yoga a new identity at the global stage leading to the worldwide celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21.

The world has embraced yoga due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Friday on International Day of Yoga. Governor Anandiben Patel and CM Adityanath performed different asanas as they led the Yoga Day celebrations in the state. Tripura CM Manik Saha said, " It (International Yoga Day) is being celebrated across Tripura...Yoga is not just exercise, it means knowing yourself and your potential...if you can keep yourself fit through Yoga, it will be good for the whole society."

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev said, "Yoga is the cure for all diseases and problems of society...I urge everyone to practise Yoga daily...In the past 10 years, Yoga has made progress..."

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday greeted the entire global community, especially the citizens of India, on the occasion of International Day of Yoga and said that yoga is a way to physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, " PM Modi made Yoga reach entire world...entire world Yoga lovers are doing Yoga and bringing a positive change to their lives and society. India is lucky that India's Yoga is famous all over the world now..."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the nation from Jammu & Kashmir on the occasion of the 10th International Yoga Day. PM Modi said Yoga has been creating new records ever since India's proposal for International Yoga Day was passed in the United States in 2014.
