5 most unexpected Money in the Bank winners
The money in the bank Ple is right up on us, and it is one of the most exciting and anticipated PLE's of the year as it may determine a future world champion. While the contract ladder matches are the show stoppers of the event, the other matches too offer high octane action and thrill. Though the format does allow every competitor an equal opportunity but still some of the names to have won it out of the blue were totally shocking.

1. CM Punk
CM Punk has won the money in the bank contract twice at WrestleMania 24 and 25. The first briefcase he won was totally unassumed and unexpected by the WWE universe. No one saw him winning that contract as he was never supposed to be that big top dog, but his performances in these latter matches, helped him become that star in WWE. He cashed in the first contract he won on Edge, marking a huge Karma for Edge, who tasted his own medicine.

2. Dolph Ziggler
Dolph Ziggler won the money in the bank contract in 2012, but he waited for more than six months to cash it in. He had won the 2012 MITB ladder match. Dolph Zigler was not that big a star then and was almost going to be lost in the mid-card but this victory in the Money in the Bank ladder match saw him become a top dog(at least for a brief while) since 'The Showoff' never really got stale while he owned the briefcase. He was also one of the very few to actually participate in the Royal Rumble match while he held the briefcase too.

3. The Miz
The Miz won the money in the bank contract at the inaugural Money in the Bank professional pay-per-view event. The event took place on July 18, 2010 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Miz won Raw's money in the bank match to earn a WWE championship match whenever he wanted to Cash it in. The surprising thing in this match was there was a plethora of superstars competing in it with the likes of Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Edge, John Morrison, Mark Henry, Evan Bourne and Ted Dibiase Jr for the contract yet, The Miz won it by pushing the ladder on which Orton was attempting to retrieve the briefcase. Once Orton fell, Miz retrieved the briefcase to win the match. The WWE universe never saw this coming and was in shock.

4. Austin Theory
The 2022 Money in the Bank ple was full of surprises and the main ladder match was chaos in itself. Adam Pearce announced that Raw's Austin Theory would be added as a surprise entrant and shockingly would go on to win the match. It came as a huge surprise for all the WWE universe and was totally unexpected. Although this contract was only meant for world championships, but after many failed attempts to cash it in on the universal WWE championship as well as teasing a cash-in on the NXT championship Austin theory decided to use the contract against Seth finally' freakin 'Rollins for the United States championship on the November 7 episode of the row in 2022, but again failed to win the title due to an attack by Bobby Lashley.

5. Dean Ambrose
The 2016 Money in the Bank PLE was one of the most fan favourite and liked pay per views of the year. This was the night where every member of 'The Shield' held the WWE world heavyweight championship. Dean Ambrose won the money in the bank contract ladder match and cashed it in on Seth Rollins right after he defeated Roman Reigns for the championship. The fact that Dean Ambrose did this mischief Seconds after that brilliant match made this whole scene all the more chaotic and brilliant. It was one of the most unexpected OMG moments in the WWE and Money in the Bank's history.
