Remembering one of the best Money in the bank in WWE history - 2016

The 2016 Money in the Bank was the seventh annual Money in the Bank pay per view which took place on June 19, 2016, in Las Vegas. It is most famously remembered as the PPV where all three members of the Shield once held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on one night. In context, Seth Rollins had returned from an injury in the previous PPV of Extreme Rules in May 2016 to attack the then-champion Roman Reigns.
Roman Reigns had just defeated AJ Styles to defend his title and Rollins’s comeback was somewhat anticipated. Seth Rollins was provided a chance to capture the title in the very next pay-per-view of Money in the Bank next night on Raw by Shane McMahon. So this was the first time the previous Shield members Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns were going one-on-one for the WWE championship.
While the build-up of this match in itself had created a huge stir and excitement in the WWE universe’s mind, the fact that Dean Ambrose was going to contest for the Money in the Bank contract in the yearly ladder match specialised for this paper view, added more spice to it. Fans were speculating that if Dean Ambrose could win the contract he had to cash it in against one of his old Shield brothers, whoever was the current champion.

DEAN AMBROSE WINS MONEY IN THE BANK

In the main Money in the Bank ladder match for a contract for the WWE title, Dean Ambrose went toe to toe against the likes of Alberto Del Rio, Cesaro, Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. In the end, Ambrose emerged victorious by knocking Owens onto a ladder bridged between another ladder and a corner and then fetching the briefcase to win the match and earn the contract for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship title opportunity whenever he wished to cash it in.

As anticipated widely by fans across the globe, the excitement had surpassed expectations as there was a chance that Ambrose could cash it in on the same night with the WWE Championship on the line next in the main event between his former shield brothers, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.

Dean Ambrose turns the briefcase into a championship-winning weapon: WWE Money in the Bank 2016

In the main event where Roman Reigns was defending his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins, Rollins executed two perfect ‘Pedigrees' and got the victory that no one expected against Roman Reigns to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the second time in his career. But the shocker of the night was yet to transpire as the moment Seth Rollins defeated Reigns and started celebrating Dean Ambrose’s Music hit and a huge pop was heard from the crowd. While Rollins was waiting for Ambrose to make his entrance, Dean attacked Rollins from behind with the briefcase and then went on to hit him with his finisher ‘Dirty Deeds’ to make the three count and defeat Seth Rollins for the WWE title and hence all the members of the shield held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship within a space of an hour.
