11 smugglers held with 32 kg gold worth Rs 19 crore

The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) has arrested 11 people for smuggling foreign origin gold in Mumbai, Nagpur, and Varanasi. The DRI seized a total of 31.7 kg of smuggled gold, valued at around Rs 19 crore. The gold was smuggled into India through the Bangladesh border and then diverted to the three cities. The arrested individuals include carriers, receivers, and handlers of the smuggled gold. The DRI officials had to chase a car for three hours in Varanasi before apprehending two men and confiscating 18.2 kg of gold from them.
