The government responds to NR Narayan Murthy's criticism of its poll guarantee schemes, calling them "unconstitutional". The government claims that the schemes address the ideals of social justice and uplift Dalits, backward and oppressed classes, and accuses Murthy of making anti-constitutional remarks. The government also questions Murthy's silence on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to waive loans of industrialists. Congress defends the guarantee schemes, stating that they have benefited 1.3 crore people and should be used for agricultural activities and the welfare of economically weaker sections. Kannada and culture minister Shivraj Tangadagi defends the schemes, stating that they are for the poor and not for the rich. Deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar acknowledges Murthy's suggestion for the development of people, but emphasizes the government's responsibility to protect the interests of farmers and the poor, especially in the face of rising petrol prices.
