Bengaluru is under the grip of a bandh called in protest of the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. This bandh began at 6 am and has garnered support from farmers' organizations, various pro-Kannada groups, and opposition parties. As a result, the city is witnessing significant disruptions to normal life, primarily because KSRTC buses and auto-rickshaws remain off the roads. This has impacted not only daily commuters but also the functioning of IT firms, schools, and offices. In response, schools and colleges in the city have declared a holiday, and several industry and trade bodies, along with some hotels, have opted to stay closed for the day. While the bandh has cast a shadow over the city, there are exceptions. Namma Metro services continue to operate as usual, offering some respite for those needing public transportation. Additionally, Section 144 is in effect, which prohibits gatherings of more than 5 people in public places, and IT firms have taken precautions by having their employees work from home. The disruption has also affected the aviation sector. Airlines have issued a travel advisory for their passengers, anticipating potential transportation issues within the Karnataka capital. They have advised passengers to arrive at Kempegowda International Airport early to avoid any inconvenience.Despite concerns, the Karnataka High Court has rejected a request to take preemptive measures to prevent problems during the Bengaluru shutdown, leaving residents and businesses to grapple with the impact of this protest.
