Breaking taboos with art: Kolkata Durga Puja Pandal embraces menstrual hygiene

In Kolkata, a puja committee has unveiled a unique Durga Puja pandal centered on the theme of menstrual hygiene, aptly named "Ritumati," signifying a menstruating woman. The endeavor aimed to challenge the deep-rooted taboos and superstitions surrounding menstruation, wherein women often face restrictions like avoiding beds or kitchens. Ellora Saha, the working president of the Pathuriaghata Pancher Pally Sarbojonin Durgotsab Committee, emphasized that menstruation is a natural biological process that should be destigmatized. The ambitious project took three months to complete, with a budget of approximately Rs 18 lakhs, echoing a crucial message of empowerment and awareness.
