Nipah Virus Outbreak in Kerala: All about the deadly virus, symptoms and treatment – Stay Informed!

Alarming developments in Kerala as the Nipah virus outbreak persists. Another case confirmed, bringing the total active cases to four, with two fatalities. The index case, Mohammedali, succumbed to Nipah. Precautionary measures include the temporary closure of educational institutions in Kozhikode until September 24. Concerningly, over a thousand individuals, including 327 healthcare workers, have had contact with infected persons. Cases are spreading across districts, with Malappuram, Kannur, and Thrissur most affected. Nipah, deadlier than COVID-19 with mortality rate of 40-70%, is highly contagious, transmitted from animals to humans. Initial symptoms: fever, headaches, muscle pain, vomiting, sore throat, progressing to severe respiratory issues, encephalitis, seizures, and coma. Currently, no specific medications or vaccines exist; supportive care is the primary treatment. The WHO prioritizes Nipah research and development.
