There is a fear about the continuation of recognition of many deemed universities. What are your views?

A deemed university status is confrerred the status by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India on the basis of recommendation by the UGC and NOC from other regulatory authorities like AICTE. For some of the deemed universities, who are not meeting the norms and standards as prescribed by UGC and regulatory authorities, the Ministry has taken steps to withdraw the status. Deemed universities with a proven track record will have no problem in continuing their status.

What are the types of institutes and programmes offered in engineering and in pharmacy after completing Class XII in science stream?

The engineering and pharmacy programmes are offered by various colleges affiliated to universities, IITs, NITs, deemed universities and central and state universities. The programmes offered include three to four-year BE/ BTech/ BSc programmes in civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, electronics and telecommunication, computer, technology, chemical, production, biomedical, textile, automobile and pharmacy. There are institutes which offer special five-year integrated dual degree programmes MBA (Tech) and MBA (PharmaTech) alongwith four-year BTech and BPharm programmes.

What are the career prospects for engineering and pharma graduates?

Engineering and pharma degree holders are employed in their respective industries. They are employed basically for design, development, operation, maintenance of plant and machinery in the relevant industry and also in marketing of products and services. They have a very good scope in the ICT Sector. The MBA (Tech) and MBA (PharmaTech) candidates are employed for the management positions. The average salary package for MBA (Tech) is Rs 6.5 lakh and that for BTech is Rs 4.5 lakh.

What is the advantage of doing MPharm + MBA course?

After completion of the course, the candidate can join the pharmaceutical industry at a managerial post with higher and attractive pay packages. It gives the advantage of a postgraduation in technical/ professional education along with management education which improves the employability prospects of the students.

Does having an industrial internship during the programme help the students?

Yes. This process exposes the students to real-time situations and brings about a paradigm shift in the perceptions of the student. It also makes the student more employable as it reduces the gap between the academic training and its application in the industry.

What is the difference between BPharm and MBA (Pharma Tech) course?

BPharm course is more technical and research-oriented. After BPharm, a candidate can seek employment or pursue higher studies. MBA (Pharma Tech) is a programme where the entire BPharm course is taken by the student and in addition the management subjects are also covered in totality. MBA (Pharma Tech) is oriented towards managerial positions in the pharmaceutical industry.

What is the cut-off for entrance examinations?

It varies from year to year, depending on number of applicants, score and cannot be given a definite number. It works on a percentile system. Each state/ university may arrive at the final merit list after taking several factors like entrance test score, class XII marks, GPAT score for PG and the performance in GD and PI into account.

What are the subjects to be studied for the entrance examinations?

The syllabus for entrance examinations for under graduate admission will be the same as that of Class XII i.e. physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology. However, there may be slight variation between the various testing authorities. It is advisable to visit the individual website for accurate information. The candidate should have studied HSC (Science) to appear for the written test.

What is the difference between the BBA and BMS course ?

The main difference is the pedagogy. We use cases, classroom discussions, projects etc to make the students understand the practical application of theory. The syllabus revision is at short intervals and hence the latest topics are incorporated which are advantageous for the students. Common Entrance Test is required for both BBA and BCom (Hons) courses. Since there is a combination of national and international students in BBA and BCom (Hons) courses, the students get better exposure.

What is the difference between the BBA and BCom (Hons) course?

In case of BBA, the focus is on management-related subjects while BCom (Hons) gives more than 50% emphasis to finance and commerce-related subjects. BBA has a wider coverage with five subjects taught per trimester, while BCom (Hons) has three subjects taught per trimester.
