Admissions open for MTech in Ocean Structures at IIT Madras Zanzibar; GATE score not required

IIT Madras Zanzibar Campus invites applications to its new MTech Programme in Ocean Structures, a two-year master of technology programme from candidates of all nationalities for the Academic Year (AY) 2024-25.

The programme comprises two streams: Stream 1, Offshore and Ship structures; Stream 2 Port, Harbour & Coastal structures. Stream selection will be based on CGPA obtained by students at the end of the first semester.

Applications will close on June 20, 2024. The screening test will be held on June 30, 2024, and the admission letter will be sent on July 15, 2024. The course encompasses core and elective courses that equip students with the knowledge required in the oil and gas and maritime sectors.

 

Four-year UG degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks

 

Selection will be based on marks obtained in UG (50% weightage) and screening test and interview (50% weightage). For students who clear the screening test, personal interviews will be conducted. The screening test and interviews will be conducted online.

Semesters 1 and 2 will be conducted at the IITM Zanzibar Campus, semester 3 at the IITM Chennai Campus, and semester four at the IITM Zanzibar Campus.

The curriculum will cover offshore platforms for oil and gas exploration, renewable energy such as offshore wind, wave and tidal energy, and port and harbour infrastructures, including jetties, berths, breakwater, dredging and reclamation aspects. Along with core courses like Wave hydrodynamics, Offshore Structures, Port and harbour structures and a selection of supplementary electives, there is an emphasis on hands-on lab work cum tutorials in the design of the above and industry-driven projects.
