Manushi Chhillar crowns her successor from Mexico as Miss World 2018
Vanessa Ponce De Leon from Mexico was adjudged the winner at the 68th edition of the prestigious Miss World pageant held at Sanya, China. She was crowned by Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar of India. At the same pageant Nicolene Pichapa from Thailand was adjudged runner up.

The grand finale of the much awaited Miss World 2018 opened with a spectacular dance performance sung by UK star Donel Mangena. Thereafter it was all about the much loved Dances of the World segment wherein finalists displayed the varied culture of the country in the most unique manner. The finale was hosted by Megan Young, Barney Walsh, Angela Chow, Fernando Allende, and Stephanie Del Valle. Next up it was all about the sub contest winners who were fast - tracked into the Top 30 of the pageant. The Top 30 included the delegates from Thailand, Mauritius, Venezuela, Uganda, Singapore, Chile, Malaysia, Mexico, India, Bangladesh, France, Japan, United States, New Zealand, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, Cook Islands, Belarus, Belgium, Northern Ireland, Russia, Scotland, Nigeria, South Africa, Panama, Barbados, Jamaica, and Martinique.

The next phase of the pageant was all about International Award winning singing sensation Dimash rocking the arena with his amazing singing skills. Next up, it was time for the Top 12 to be decided on the basis of continents. From Europe it was Belarus, France, and Scotland, who made the cut and from the Carribean it was Jamaica, and Martinique. From America it was Mexico and Panama who made the cut and from Africa it was Mauritius and Uganda. From Asia and Oceania it was Nepal, Thailand, and New Zealand who made the cut.

The host of the evening then announced the Miss World continental winners and the ladies who made the cut were Belarus - Miss World Europe, Jamaica - Miss World Carribbean, Mexico - Miss World America, Uganda - Miss World Africa, and Thailand - Miss World Asia and Oceania. The announcement of the continental winners was followed by the Q and A with the shortlisted Top 5. The finale also witnessed one last musical performance by Sister Sledge who sung their 1979 hit song “We Are Family”The moments before the crowning witnessed the reigning winner Miss World 2017 take centre stage for one last time. The gorgeous beauty queen recalled her one year journey and Miss World CEO Julia Morley expressed her gratitude towards Manushi for her successful reign. It was quite a emotional moment as Manushi described her reign as fulfilling and a learning experience. Manushi’s journey has been inspirational, from girl next door to glam queen; her journey was a whirlwind one. This talented and highly intelligent medical student made India proud by winning the title last year, amidst fierce competition. Manushi continues to inspire millions of young minds to chase their dreams. She is a real life hero who made young India believe that if the intent is right, and the focus astute, the world is your oyster.
