Column's very own Zachary Ozer joined Harness on stage for their panel, "Digitizing Tax: How Tech Companies are Tackling the Complex Business of Tax" along with Matthew Powers & Dwight Clancy. The three went into detail about the infrastructure for the next generation of tax products and how well-designed products can help abstract away the complexity for taxpayers. Kudos to the Harness team for hosting a great Tax Advisor Forum in New York!

We're excited to share that Ryan S. has joined Column Tax as Head of Engineering! Ryan has been building complex software & engineering teams for over 20 years. He most recently led engineering teams at Stripe and Quid. Before that he was a 2x founder including a stint in the early days of YCombinator. Ryan lives in San Francisco with his family and the ultimate lap dog named Pancake. We're very excited to have Ryan joining to lead engineering at Column Tax to build the next generation tax platform. Welcome Ryan!

Easy Expense simplifies the spending management and bookkeeping experience for the self-employed. From a simple scan of a receipt, users can categorize receipts, link their card and bank accounts to flag relevant charges, use GPS to log deductible mileage, and generate mobile invoices. In her interview with Entrepreneur, Lauren Myrick, CEO and Co-founder of Found, describes how the self-employed act as their own finance department: “This typically involves keeping business and personal finances separate, correctly calculating and proactively saving the proper amount for taxes, and tracking financial deadlines, expenses, and fines.” Found helps to make this easier by helping users categorize expenses, save for and pay quarterly taxes, and provide guidance on what can and cannot be deducted as write-offs. We partnered with Found to connect these year-round services to a user’s year-end tax return. Typically, this can take 20+ hours for the self-employed, with over 70% missing expense deductions altogether. Through our partnership, we make tax filing faster, more connected, and more accurate for Found users.
