National Young Farmers Coalition represents, mobilizes, and engages young farmers to ensure their success.
About us
We believe we have one generation to transform agriculture in service to our communities and the land. We are that generation. At the National Young Farmers Coalition, we shift power and change policy to equitably resource our new generation of working farmers. We envision a just future where farming is free of racial violence, accessible to communities, oriented towards environmental well-being, and concerned with health over profit. We are farmers and ranchers who steward the struggle to transform agriculture. We are an intersectional coalition that works for justice and collective liberation of our food and farm systems. We champion policies that resource connections to the land and foster our health in the face of climate crisis. We advocate for policies that recognize farming as a public service. We work in partnership with social justice movements for a future in which people, land, and relationships are respected. We aspire to stand in ever greater solidarity with global movements that advance human rights - especially the right to food and place.

How do we foster a sense of community commitment and belonging in order to build collective power and community care networks? On the last Thursday of every month, join us to learn more about the organizing work we are doing with our partners, fellows, and other farmers across the country and how you can get involved. Our next session is TODAY at 3pm ET/1pm MT, when we’ll explore this question and hear from leaders of our Northern Illinois Chapter on how they have experimented with building community both in-person and virtually for #youngfarmers in their region. In honor of #Juneteenth, we are excited to announce that we'll be extending free Young Farmers Community Membership to students in agriculture programs at partnering historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Members of the Coalition help set our federal policy priorities, which guide our work fighting for policy change that serves the next generation in agriculture. Black farmers have been historically underrepresented and excluded from federal programs, so it’s crucial for us to center Black voices in our advocacy work. After 13.5 hours of markup discussions, the House Agriculture Committee passed their draft of the #FarmBill. We are disappointed that the text fails to meaningfully prioritize #youngfarmers, #landaccess, #climateaction, and nutrition assistance, but encouraged that the farm bill process continues to move forward. Thank you to everyone who took action this week to contact your members of Congress - we will not stop advocating for your priorities!

The House Agriculture Committee votes TODAY on Chairman Glenn Thompson’s Farm Bill draft, which fails to prioritize equitable #landaccess, #climateaction, #conservation, and nutrition assistance for the 40million+ Americans who depend on it. Take our action to tell your Representatives to VOTE NO! BIPOC and #youngfarmers deserve a #FarmBill that addresses the systemic challenges they face. https://lnkd.in/efRuG-Nv

TOMORROW, the House Agriculture Committee is voting on Chairman Glenn Thompson's Farm Bill draft. Young Farmers joins many food and agriculture systems advocates in opposing the bill for failing to prioritize equitable #landaccess, #climateaction, #conservation, and more. The House Committee on Agriculture votes on Chairman Glenn Thompson’s Farm Bill draft THIS THURSDAY. Young Farmers opposes the proposed legislation, which misses this critical opportunity to address the challenges facing the new generation of U.S. farmers and ranchers including #landaccess, #climateaction, #conservation, and more. “We need federal farm policy that centers #equity, addresses the land access crisis, and tackles the challenges of farm viability and #climatechange that #youngfarmers and ranchers are up against. This #FarmBill is our best opportunity to prioritize the needs of a new generation and to build a safe and thriving food system. Unfortunately, while some of our recommendations can be found in the text, this first draft misses the mark,” said Michelle Hughes, Young Farmers’ Co-Executive Director. Take action today to tell your Representatives to VOTE NO: https://lnkd.in/efRuG-Nv
