How much do Product Managers get paid in the USA? We've spoken with thousands of Product Managers and Product Leaders across the USA over the years and have compiled the salary ranges for IC Product Management positions to help answer this question. These ranges represent the lowest 10% to the highest 10% of salary that Product Managers make at various levels. Here are some themes we've noticed and worth considering when reviewing these figures: 💡 Early-stage companies tend to offer lower salaries but offer bigger equity. 💡 Companies hiring in big cities/tech hubs pay higher salaries. 💡 "Specialized" PMs can command higher salaries (e.g. experienced Growth PMs command more than generalists). 💡 Certain industries pay more than others (Software vs Hardware) 💡 Short (less than 12 months) and long tenure (5+ years) often stunts the ability to command a higher salary. Companies need to be aware of what their competition is paying for talent if they want to attract the right person for the job. They also need to be aware of the salary expectations their PMs have if they want to retain their employees. What's crazy is that we are seeing several companies go to market for positions like a Director of Product but offer a salary in the range of $150k. No one at this level is going to move for that and if by some miracle they do find someone, it will be a gap-filling job for them. Director-level pay in Product Management is generally north of $200k! Talented people won't want to move jobs for below-average pay or a below-average opportunity, no matter how competitive the marketplace may be. Offering fair pay and compensation is good for a company because it reduces attrition rates and employees feel valued and engaged.
