Mali refuses to apply for bail
Patiala: Malwinder Singh Mali, former political adviser to Navjot Singh Sidhu, has refused to apply for bail in a case registered against him in Mohali for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, according to his brother Ranjit Singh.
Ranjit Singh said: “Mali has refused to apply for bail. I have been in touch with the legal experts and intellectuals who have suggested filing of a petition in the court to get the case dismissed.

We fear that the government may entangle Mali in some other false case even if we get him out on bail.” He added that they plan to file a petition in court to dismiss the case, claiming it is a false case that would fail to stand legal scrutiny.
Ranjit Singh also said that he visited his brother in Patiala Central Jail, where he is being held in the mulazam ahata section of the jail. Family members are allowed to meet him twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
In response to Mali’s arrest, BKU Ekta Ugrahan and other farmer organisations have announced plans to hold demonstrations at district headquarters across Punjab in protest.
Mali was arrested by CIA Mohali on Monday night while he was with his family at his brother’s residence in Patiala. He was sent to Patiala Central Jail on Tuesday under 14-day judicial custody.
His arrest has sparked a political uproar, as he has been a vocal critic of the state government on various issues and has been frequently interviewed by news outlets. In addition to criticism from political leaders of different parties, including SAD and Congress, Mali’s arrest was condemned in a resolution passed by the Akali rebel group SAD Sudhar Lehar at a recent seminar organised in Patiala to commemorate the upcoming 100th birth anniversary of Jathedar GS Tohra on September 24.
