According to trade analysts Sacnilk, 'Thangalaan' has grossed an impressive Rs. 38.72 crore in India making it a commercial success. On its eighth day in theatres, Thursday, August 22, the movie earned Rs. 1.27 crore, continuing its steady run.

On August 22, 'Thangalaan' had an overall Tamil occupancy of 14.81%, with morning shows at 11.83%, afternoon shows at 16.47%, evening shows at 14.72%, and night shows at 16.22%. In the Telugu market, the movie saw an overall occupancy of 14.00% on the same day.

'Thangalaan; is based on the true story of a tribal community that lived in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) during the British colonial era. The narrative centres on Vikram’s character, the leader of the tribe, who reluctantly aids a British colonel in the search for gold. In doing so, he faces the difficult decision of sacrificing his hometown and village for the greater good of his people. Later a conflict arises from his actions, including the wrath of a mysterious sorcerer.

Despite facing competition from other releases like 'Raghu Thatha' and 'Demonte Colony 2', the film has managed to hold its own at the box office.
