To determine the factors associated with inadequate follow-up for abnormal Pap smears among a cohort of Boston women from urban academic clinics. Subjects were women > 18 years with abnormal cervical cytology between February 1999 and April 2000. Inadequate follow-up was defined as lack of subsequent cervical cytology or pathology specimen within four months of the initial abnormal specimen for high-grade lesions or within 7 months for low-grade lesions. Of the 423 subjects, the mean age was 33 years. Sixty percent were black, 23% Hispanic, 15% white, 2% Asian. The population was largely uninsured or publically insured. The overall inadequate follow-up rate was 38%. In bivariate analysis, age was a significant risk factor; 46% of women ages 18-29 had inadequate follow-up (p < 0.01). In multivariate analysis, women aged 18-29 years were more likely than women 50 years and older to have inadequate follow-up (OR 2.7, 95% CI 1.1-6.4), as were women with Medicaid insurance compared...

La doctrine s’est déjà penchée à de nombreuses reprises sur les assurtechs, la menace concurrentielle qu’elles pourraient représenter pour les acteurs traditionnels de l’assurance ou encore sur les technologies dont elles font usage. Elle semble en revanche s’être moins intéressée à l’étude des relations que ces assurtechs nourrissent avec les acteurs du marché qu’elles viennent disrupter.
Cette recherche a donc pour objectif de déterminer différentes catégories d’assurtech. De qualifier les relations de partenariat, de dépendance ou de compétition qu’elles développeront entre elles et avec les acteurs traditionnels du marché. La nature de ces relations sera fonction de leurs caractéristiques et des besoins des acteurs traditionnels dans leur effort de transformation digitale. Des data primaires et secondaires, qualitatives et quantitatives sont employés afin de déterminer un schéma des relations inter-organisationnelles du marché de l’assurance enrichi de ces nouveaux acteurs.
Ces recherches ont conduit à conclure que les stratégies le plus performantes conduiront à voir naitre des écosystèmes composés d’assurtech conceptrices de produit d’assurance et d’assurtech de soutien à la digitalisation entourant des groupes d’assurance traditionnels. Viendront s’ajouter à cet écosystème des prestataires de services liés directement ou indirectement au service d’assurance proposé. Cette nouvelle logique d’écosystème élargira donc la fonction d’assurance de ces acteurs à celle de protection.
Ce model emportera des conséquences majeures sur le marché de l’assurance, sa dynamique, ses facteurs clefs de succès et bouleversera sa logique financière. C’est par des observations et recommandations managériales basées sur cette analyse et les pronostics qui en découlent que se conclura cette recherche

Kamu yararını gözeten, kamu kuruluşları ya da kamu kuruluşlarının gözetim ve denetimi altındaki özel kurumlarca sunulan hizmetler kamu hizmeti olarak tanımlanır. Sağlık sigortası hizmetleri de bu yönüyle kamu hizmeti bağlamında ve dolayısıyla kamu politikası kapsamı içerisinde incelenmesi gereken konulardan birisidir. Türkiye'de hizmetin, sosyal devletin bir yansıması olarak devlet, buna ek ve tamamlayıcı olarak ise özel sektör tarafından veriliyor olması, konuyu kamu politikası analizinin rasyonel, post-pozitivist ve karma yaklaşımları bağlamında tartışma nesnesi haline getirmektedir. Dolayısıyla Türkiye'deki sağlık sigortası konusu, kamu politikası analizi yaklaşımlarının soyut sınırlarını daha görünür hale getirmek üzere güzel bir örnektir. Diğer yandan, sağlık sigortası konusunun Türkçe alan yazınındaki farklı boyutlarını söz konusu yaklaşımlar çerçevesinde ortaya koymak, sigortacılık ve kamu politikası alan yazını açısından önem arz etmektedir. Bu sava bağlı olarak çalışmada sağlık sigortası hizmetleri konusu kamu politikası yaklaşımları etrafında tartışılmıştır. Türkiye'de sağlık sigortacılığı hizmetlerinin bu yaklaşımlar boyutundaki durumunu irdelemek üzere konu hakkında yazılmış ve tez dosyalarına ulaşılabilen 75 adet lisansüstü tez üzerine bir içerik analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda, tezlerin kamu politikası analizi yaklaşımları içerisindeki dağılımları üzerinden mevcut duruma ilişkin birtakım çıkarımlarda bulunulmuştur.
ABSTRACT Services offered by public institutions or private institutions under the supervision and control of public institutions, which adopt the principle of public interest, are defined as public service. In this respect, health insurance services are one of the issues that should be examined in the context of public service and therefore within the scope of public policy. As it is provided mainly by the state and supportively and complementarily by the private sector, this makes the issue as the focus topic of rational, post-positivist, and hybrid public policy analysis approaches. Thus, the health insurance issue in Turkey is a good example to make the limits of the public policy analysis approaches more visible. On the other hand, it is important in terms of insurance and public policy literature to reveal the different dimensions of health insurance in Turkish literature within the framework of these approaches. With regard to this argument, in the study, the health insurance services subject has been discussed around these public policy approaches. A content analysis conducted on 75 graduate theses with full texts, to investigate the health insurance subject in Turkey, among these approaches. In the conclusion of the study, some inferences about the current situation have been made over the distribution of the theses in public policy analysis approaches. An emergent life insurance market in Swaziland is prompting some families to remake kinship as the entrustment of a generation of deceased relatives’ children. Coincident with high HIV/AIDS mortality and changing economic policies for the financial services sector, Swaziland saw an influx of foreign insurance companies in the early 2000s. Those companies offered incentives like burial coverage and cash stipends, and they compelled families’ legal adoption of children as orphans through the state, an ambiguous contrast to customary child entrustment and caregiving practices. I offer ethnographic insight on financialization in the global South and conceptualize insurance as a biopolitical, moralized “compassion technology,” which enveloped persons’ financial-legal obligations within humanitarian and global health discourses of social regeneration.

actuar is a package providing additional Actuarial Science functionality to the R sta-tistical system. The project was launched in 2005 and the package is available on the Comprehensive R Archive Network since February 2006. The current version of the pack-age contains functions for use in the fields of loss distributions modeling, risk theory (including ruin theory), simulation of compound hierarchical models and credibility the-ory. This paper presents in detail but with few technical terms the most recent version of the package.

Exchange rate volatility and how it affects the banking sector had been studied by several authors with little or no consideration of its effects on the performance of the insurance industry in Nigeria. This study applied the vector error correction model to analyze the long-run effects of exchange rate volatility on insurance performance using insurance penetration and insurance density as measures of insurance performance in Nigeria. The period covered by this study is from 1986 to 2018. Findings showed the presence of a significant and positive long-run impact of exchange rate volatility on insurance performance in Nigeria. With this finding the study recommended that a defined and unified exchange rate regime should be implemented to prevent the insurance sector from making abnormal gains from currency variations/mispricing as this is necessary to build a sector that would be robust enough to absorb any exchange rate volatility that may occur in future.

This paper examines the level of job satisfaction of insurance employes in Bangladesh. It shows that job satisfaction factors are associated with the overall satisfaction of insurance employees. Factors including recognition, task significance, pride of work, bureaucracy, and conflicts are important for improving job satisfaction of insurance employees in Bangladesh. These factors are significantly related to the overall satisfaction of the employees. The higher level of recognition, task significance, pride of work and lower level of bureaucracy and conflicts result in positive overall satisfaction on insurance employees. The results also show significant differences between the job satisfaction level of desk and development employees. The differences are concerned with the attitudes including fair pay, promotion chance, benefits, salary increase, supervisors' behavior, goal clarity, work appreciation, and co-workers relations.

Over the past years, one of the most discussed topics in policy debates on genetics has been the use of genetic testing in insurance. Many of these debates have been rather speculative and abstract. In a recent contribution to this journal, Kaufert therefore urged for &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;a proper research agenda&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot; to study the issue, arguing for the need of anthropological and sociological research of the insurance world. This article will make a start with this. Based on ethnographic fieldwork in two Belgium insurance companies, this study analyses the ways insurers account for predictive medicine (lifestyle, genetics) during underwriting. We demonstrate how insurers highlight predictive lifestyle health information and how this articulates with a fault based approach in underwriting. Individual responsibility for health risks becomes the golden standard for assessing one&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s fitness for membership of the insurance pool. Moreover, these developments imply a changed concept of &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;normal standard&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot; in insurance, increasing the conditions to fulfil to be part of the insurance group. Predictive medicine constitutes new ground in the old debates about individual control, responsibility and blame for health. This goes to the heart of the basis for citizenship and how this articulates with membership--or, if you want, exclusion--of the insurance pool.

Abstract: Insurance started in a late period compared to western countries in the Islamic society, which is governed by religious and traditional values. Especially as a result of conservative approaches to insurance in the religion of Islam, the fact that insurance is seen as an opposition to the faith of fate rather than preventing risks has been an important obstacle in the development of insurance and insurance. At the same time, international trade is carried out mostly by non-Muslim subjects and foreign traders have made this sector conscious to protect its goods and risks, but this has limited the development of insurance in the traditional Ottoman commercial life. Insurance activities, which emerged as a necessity in the Ottoman Empire with the influence of trade with western countries in the coastal regions, became widespread in the following period with the effect of European lifestyle. However, as in the case of the Ottoman State, insurance has always been the focus of religious discussions, so it has developed late compared to other European countries. The activities that started with fire and maritime insurance in France have expanded with the sale of policies in life, agriculture and theft insurance. After the Revolution of 1789, the restrictions imposed on insurance due to religious approach in the monarchy period led to the spread of insurance activities with the effect of liberalization in the following period. The activities that started in France primarily in the field of fire and sea insurance have expanded with the sale of policies in agriculture and life insurance. The commercial activities of the two countries led to the expansion of the insurance sector. In addition, the fact that the French were in the leading position in foreign investments in the Ottoman State made an important contribution to the development of the Ottoman insurance sector. The purpose of this article is to examine the development processes of insurance in two countries and to make a comparative analysis.

Este artigo visa apresentar a importância dos programas de seguros em financiamentos estruturados nas modalidades de Project Finance e Project Bond em contratos de construção ou operação de embarcações e projetos de óleo e gás no âmbito global. Poucas indústrias possuem riscos tão proeminentes quanto o setor de óleo e gás, tampouco detém um histórico de estruturação de financiamentos, como ocorre no setor marítimo. A transversalidade de ambos, área de óleo, gás e energia com o setor naval enaltece uma gama ampla de aspectos a serem estudados, avaliados e melhorados no âmbito jurídico, contratual, social e econômico. O artigo também versa alguns dos principais riscos envolvidos e os seguros que podem ser considerados para tornar eficiente a transferência dessas exposições para o mercado segurador de tal forma a apresentar-se como uma das alternativas de financiamento para determinados projetos ou ativos. This article aims to present the importance of the insurance programs in structured finance deals as Project Finance and Project Bond for the construction or operation of vessels and oil and gas projects. Few industries have risks as prominent as the oil and gas sector, in addition to the vast history of ship financing as it exists in the maritime sector. The synergy of both the oil, gas and energy area with the marine business enhances a wide range of aspects to be studied, evaluated and improved in the legal, contractual, social and economic matters. The article also aims to highlight some of the main concerns involved and the insurance that can be considered to an efficient risk transference to the insurance market, taking it as one of the financing alternatives for certain projects or assets.
