The power of collective action can be staggering. Ahead of #UNGA this year, we are reminded of the progress we've made for millions of children through our incredible partnerships, such as: • Eradicating 99.9% of polio • Providing over 2 billion people with access to safely managed drinking water since 2000 • Reducing under-5 child mortality rates by two-thirds since 1990, with the lowest rate ever recorded in 2023 We’ve overcome the seemingly impossible before, and we can do so again. But if we want to meet the #globalgoals by 2030 and ensure a fairer, better, more sustainable world – we need to do more. Together, we can shape a better future #ForEveryChild. https://lnkd.in/gUJ6HXyM

“I know we are all concerned with the situation involving Lebanon and Israel and the Secretary General has urged all concerned to exercise maximum restraint to avert any further escalation and any further escalation would be terrible in terms of consequences for children. “Today, I am concluding a visit to Israel, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank where I had the opportunity to meet with children from different communities who have been affected by this terrible war. October 7 was a horrible day, and every day since has been horrible too for children in this fourth major escalation in 10 years and the result of an unresolved conflict and a history of occupation.” Full remarks below from Ted Chaiban, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director for Humanitarian Action and Supply Operations.

“I knew that I was underage and should not be getting married so early as it would have negative effects on me and my body,” says 15-year-old Azida from Bangladesh. For nearly four years, Azida has been attending an adolescent club at a UNICEF-supported centre, where she learned about child marriage, early pregnancy, child abuse and more. Support and knowledge from her facilitators empowered her to speak out, ultimately ending discussions about her own marriage. Now, she eagerly participates in embroidery courses at the centre, designed to equip adolescents with practical skills for the future. More power to you, Azida! 💙

Devastating floods and landslides caused by Typhoon Yagi in Southeast Asia have affected nearly 6 million children. Across Viet Nam, Myanmar, Laos and Thailand, their access to education, clean water and essential services is under serious risk. UNICEF and partners are on the ground, providing lifesaving support to children and families, including safe drinking water, hygiene and health kits, mental health support and learning and recreational materials. Typhoon Yagi is the most powerful storm to hit Asia so far this year. The intensifying frequency and compounding effects of climate-related hazards are putting children’s lives and futures at risk. We need urgent #ClimateAction, for every child.
