A short course on Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions
Abstract: Some ideas/concepts in relativistic heavy ion collisions are discussed. To a large extent, the discussions are non-comprehensive and non-rigorous. It is intended for fresh graduate students of Homi Bhabha National Institute, Kolkata Centre, who are intending to pursue career in theoretical /experimental high energy nuclear physics. J/$ψ$ suppression in a dense baryonic medium
Abstract: We have examined the available latest SPS data on $J/ψ$ suppression in Pb+Pb and In+In collisions at 158 A GeV. Our employed model, with parameters fixed by $p$-$p$ and $p$-nucleus collisions, gives excellent description of NA50 and NA60 data on centrality dependence of $J/ψ$ suppression. Fluctuating initial condition and smoothening effect on elliptic and triangular flow
Abstract: In heavy ion collisions, event-by-event fluctuations in participating nucleon positions can lead to triangular flow. Generally, one uses Monte-Carlo Glauber model to obtain the participating nucleon positions. To use in a hydrodynamic model, the positions needs to be smoothened. We study the effect of smoothening of Glauber Monte-Carlo initial conditions on elliptic and triangular flow. It is show… ▽ More

Nearly perfect fluid in Au+Au collisions at RHIC
Abstract: In the Israel-Stewart's theory of dissipative hydrodynamics, we have analysed the STAR data on $φ$ meson production in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=200 GeV. From a simultaneous fit to $φ$ mesons multiplicity, mean $p_T$ and integrated $v_2$, we obtain a phenomenological estimate of QGP viscosity, $η/s =0.07 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.14$, the first error is due to the experimental uncertainty in STAR meas… ▽ More

Initial eccentricity and constituent quark number scaling of elliptic flow in ideal and viscous dynamics
Abstract: In the Israel-Stewart's theory of dissipative hydrodynamics, we study the scaling properties elliptic flow in Au+Au collisions. Initial energy density of the fluid was fixed to reproduce STAR data on $φ$ meson multiplicity in 0-5% Au+Au collisions, such that irrespective of fluid viscosity, entropy at the freeze-out is similar in ideal or in viscous evolution. Initial eccentricity or constituent… ▽ More

Hydrodynamical model for $J/ψ$ suppression and elliptic flow
Abstract: In a hydrodynamic model, we have studied $J/ψ$ suppression and elliptic flow in Au+Au collisions at RHIC energy $\sqrt{s}$=200 GeV. At the initial time, $J/ψ$'s are randomly distributed in the fluid. As the fluid evolve in time, the free streaming $J/ψ$'s are dissolved if the local fluid temperature exceeds a melting temperature $T_{J/ψ}$. Sequential melting of charmonium states ($χ_c$,… ▽ More

Investigation of biferroic properties in La0.6Sr0.4MnO3/0.7 Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 0.3 PbTiO3 epitaxial bilayered heterostructures
Abstract: Epitaxial bilayered thin films consisting of La0.6Sr0.4MnO3 (LSMO) and 0.7 Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 0.3 PbTiO3 (PMN-PT) layers of relatively different thicknesses were fabricated on LaNiO3 coated LaAlO3 (100) single crystal substrates by pulsed laser ablation technique. Ferroelectric and ferromagnetic characteristics of these heterostructures confirmed their biferroic nature. The magnetization and ferro… ▽ More

Equation of state dependence of Mach cone like structures in Au+Au collisions
Abstract: In jet quenching, a hard QCD parton, before fragmenting into a jet of hadrons, deposits a fraction of its energy in the medium. As the parton moves nearly with speed of light, much greater that the speed of sound of the medium, quenching jet can generate Mach shock wave. We have examined the possibility of Mach shock wave formation due to jet quenching. Assuming that the deposited energy quickly… ▽ More

Heat transport and phonon localization in mass-disordered harmonic crystals
Abstract: We investigate the steady state heat current in two and three dimensional disordered harmonic crystals in a slab geometry, connected at the boundaries to stochastic white noise heat baths at different temperatures. The disorder causes short wavelength phonon modes to be localized so the heat current in this system is carried by the extended phonon modes which can be either diffusive or ballistic.… ▽ More

Viscous hydrodynamics description of $φ$ meson production in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions
Abstract: In the Israel-Stewart's theory of 2nd order dissipative hydrodynamics, we have simulated $φ$ production in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions at $\sqrt{s}_{NN}$=200 GeV. Evolution of QGP fluid with viscosity over the entropy ratio $η/s$=0.25, thermalised at $τ_i$=0.2 fm, with initial energy density $ε_i$=5.1 $GeV/fm^3$ explains the experimental data on $φ$ multiplicity, integrated $v_2$, mean $p_T$,… ▽ More

An estimate of QGP viscosity from STAR data on $φ$ mesons
Abstract: In the Israel-Stewart's theory of dissipative hydrodynamics, with a lattice based equation of state, where the confinement-deconfinement transition is a cross-over at $T_{co}$=196 MeV, we have analysed the STAR data on $φ$ meson production in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=200 GeV. From a simultaneous fit to $φ$ mesons multiplicity, mean $p_T$ and integrated $v_2$, we obtain a phenomenological e… ▽ More

Magnetic behaviour of PrPd2B2C
Abstract: We have synthesized a new quaternary borocarbide PrPd$_{2}$B$_{2}$C and measured its magnetization, electrical resistivity and specific heat. The compound crystallizes in the LuNi$_{2}$B$_{2}$C-type tetragonal structure (space group {\it I4/mmm}). Above 100 K the magnetic susceptibility follows Curie-Weiss behavior with effective moment $μ_{eff}$ = 3.60 $μ_{B}$, which is very close to the value… ▽ More
