Abstract:
For a digraph $G$ without multisquares and a field $\mathbb{F}$, we construct a basis of the vector space of path $n$-chains $Ω_n(G;\mathbb{F})$ for $n\geq 0$, generalising the basis of $Ω_3(G;\mathbb{F})$ constructed by Grigory'an. For a field $\mathbb{F},$ we consider the $\mathbb{F}$-path Euler characteristic $χ^\mathbb{F}(G)$ of a digraph $G$ defined as the alternating sum of dimensions of path homology groups with coefficients in $\mathbb{F}.$ If $Ω_\bullet(G;\mathbb{F})$ is a bounded chain complex, the constructed bases can be applied to compute $χ^\mathbb{F}(G)$. We provide an explicit example of a digraph $\mathcal{G}$ whose $\mathbb{F}$-path Euler characteristic depends on whether the characteristic of $\mathbb{F}$ is two, revealing the differences between GLMY theory and the homology theory of spaces. This allows us to prove that there is no topological space $X$ whose homology is isomorphic to path homology of the digraph $H_*(X;\mathbb{K})\cong {\rm PH}_*(\mathcal{G};\mathbb{K})$ simultaneously for $\mathbb{K}=\mathbb{Z}$ and $\mathbb{K}=\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}.$

The article is devoted to the study of diagonal digraphs, i.e. digraphs whose magnitude homology is concentrated on the diagonal. For a digraph $G$ and $\ell\geq 2,$ we describe a condition, denoted by $(\mathcal{V}_\ell)$, equivalent to vanishing of the second magnitude homology group ${\rm MH}_{2,k}(G,\mathbb{Z})$ for all $k>\ell.$ In particular, diagonal digraphs satisfy $(\mathcal{V}_2).$ As a corollary we obtain that the 2-dimensional CW-complex obtained from a diagonal undirected graph by attaching 2-cells to all squares and triangles of the graph is simply connected. We also give an interpretation of diagonality in terms of Koszul algebras: a digraph $G$ is diagonal if and only if the distance algebra $σG$ is Koszul for any ground field; and if and only if $G$ satisfies $(\mathcal{V}_2)$ and the path cochain algebra $Ω^\bullet(G)$ is Koszul for any ground field. To obtain a source of examples of digraphs, we study the extended Hasse diagram $\hat G_K$ of a pure simplicial complex $K$. For a triangulation $K$ of a topological manifold $M,$ we express the non-diagonal part of the magnitude homology of $\hat G_K$ via the homology of $M$. As a corollary we obtain that, if $K$ is a triangulation of a closed manifold $M$, then $\hat G_K$ is diagonal if and only if $M$ is a homology sphere.

One of the ways to make artificial intelligence more natural is to give it some room for doubt. Two main questions should be resolved in that way. First, how to train a model to estimate uncertainties of its own predictions? And then, what to do with the uncertain predictions if they appear? First, we proposed an uncertainty-aware negative log-likelihood loss for the case of N-dimensional multivariate normal distribution with spherical variance matrix to the solution of N-classes classification tasks. The loss is similar to the heteroscedastic regression loss. The proposed model regularizes uncertain predictions, and trains to calculate both the predictions and their uncertainty estimations. The model fits well with the label smoothing technique. Second, we expanded the limits of data augmentation at the training and test stages, and made the trained model to give multiple predictions for a given number of augmented versions of each test sample. Given the multi-view predictions together with their uncertainties and confidences, we proposed several methods to calculate final predictions, including mode values and bin counts with soft and hard weights. For the latter method, we formalized the model tuning task in the form of multimodal optimization with non-differentiable criteria of maximum accuracy, and applied particle swarm optimization to solve the tuning task. The proposed methodology was tested using CIFAR-10 dataset with clean and noisy labels and demonstrated good results in comparison with other uncertainty estimation methods related to sample selection, co-teaching, and label smoothing.

We prove that the magnitude (co)homology of an enriched category can, under some technical assumptions, be described in terms of derived functors between certain abelian categories. We show how this statement is specified for the cases of quasimetric spaces, finite quasimetric spaces, and finite digraphs. For quasimetric spaces, we define the notion of a distance module over a quasimetric space, define the functor of (co)invariants of a distance module and show that the magnitude (co)homology can be presented via its derived functors. As a corollary we obtain that the magnitude cohomology of a quasimetric space can be presented in terms of Ext functors in the category of distance modules. For finite quasimetric spaces, we show that magnitude (co)homology can be presented in terms of Tor and Ext functors over a certain graded algebra, called the distance algebra of the quasimetric space. For finite digraphs, the distance algebra is a bound quiver algebra. In addition, we show that the magnitude cohomology algebra of a finite quasimetric space can be described as a Yoneda algebra.

It is called the $r$-minimal model of $X$. We use this to construct a decomposition of the magnitude-path spectral sequence of a digraph into a direct sum of spectral sequences with certain properties. We also construct an $r$-homotopy invariant ${\rm SH}^r_{n,I}(X)$ of a quasimetric space $X,$ called spectral homology, that generalizes many other invariants: the pages of the magnitude-path spectral sequence, including path homology, magnitude homology, blurred magnitude homology and reachability homology.

For example, there is no a natural non-trivial way to define an abelian subgroup of a group, or a perfect quotient group of a group. As an auxiliary result we prove that, for any non-trivial subfunctor $F$ of the identity functor on the category of groups, any group can be embedded into a simple group that lies in the essential image of $F.$ The paper concludes with a few questions regarding the non-existence of certain (co-)augmented functors in the $\infty$-category of spaces.

To illustrate this method, we provide a path homology computation for the Cayley digraph of the additive group of rational numbers with a generating set consisting of inverses to factorials. The main tool in our work is a filtered simplicial set associated with a digraph, which we call the filtered nerve of a digraph.

Several common monads are shown to be uniquely characterized by the property of being terminal objects in the category of co-augmented endo-functors. Once extended to infinity categories, this gives, for example, a complete characterization of the well-known Bousfield-Kan R-homology completion. In addition, we note that an idempotent pro-completion tower can be associated with any co-augmented endo functor M, whose limit is the terminal monad that preserves the closure of ImM, the image of M, under finite limits. We conclude that some basic properties of the homological completion tower of a space can be formulated and proved for general monads over any category with limits, and characterized as universal

A study of the dynamical response also provides invaluable information on the character of those interactions. Here we demonstrate how tuning the electrostatic interactions by an ionic surfactant in dispersions of magnetic nanoplatelets leads to developing new dynamic modes in magnetic response spectra. The collective modes can be induced or suppressed by either varying the concentration ratio of the magnetic nanoplatelets (MP) to the surfactant or increasing the MP concentration reflecting the nanoscale characteristics of this fluid magnet.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition with organ dysfunction and is a leading cause of death and critical illness worldwide. Even a few hours of delay in the treatment of sepsis results in increased mortality. Early detection of sepsis during emergency department triage would allow early initiation of lab analysis, antibiotic administration, and other sepsis treatment protocols. The purpose of this study was to compare sepsis detection performance at ED triage (prior to the use of laboratory diagnostics) of the standard sepsis screening algorithm (SIRS with source of infection) and a machine learning algorithm trained on EHR triage data. A machine learning model (KATE Sepsis) was developed using patient encounters with triage data from 16participating hospitals. KATE Sepsis and standard screening were retrospectively evaluated on the adult population of 512,949 medical records. KATE Sepsis demonstrates an AUC of 0.9423 (0.9401 - 0.9441) with sensitivity of 71.09% (70.12% - 71.98%) and specificity of 94.81% (94.75% - 94.87%). Standard screening demonstrates an AUC of 0.6826 (0.6774 - 0.6878) with sensitivity of 40.8% (39.71% - 41.86%) and specificity of 95.72% (95.68% - 95.78%). The KATE Sepsis model trained to detect sepsis demonstrates 77.67% (75.78% -79.42%) sensitivity in detecting severe sepsis and 86.95% (84.2% - 88.81%) sensitivity in detecting septic shock. The standard screening protocol demonstrates 43.06% (41% - 45.87%) sensitivity in detecting severe sepsis and40% (36.55% - 43.26%) sensitivity in detecting septic shock. Future research should focus on the prospective impact of KATE Sepsis on administration of antibiotics, readmission rate, morbidity and mortality.

The FFC operator allows employing large receptive field operations within early layers of the neural network. It was shown to be especially helpful for inpainting of periodic structures which are common in audio processing. In this work, we design neural network architectures which adapt FFC for speech enhancement. We hypothesize that a large receptive field allows these networks to produce more coherent phases than vanilla convolutional models, and validate this hypothesis experimentally. We found that neural networks based on Fast Fourier convolution outperform analogous convolutional models and show better or comparable results with other speech enhancement baselines.

The Borsuk number of a given bounded metric space $X$ is the infimum of cardinal numbers $n$ such that $X$ can be partitioned into $n$ smaller parts (in the sense of diameter). An exact formula for the Gromov--Hausdorff distance between bounded metric spaces is obtained under the assumption that the diameter and cardinality of one space are less than the diameter and Borsuk number of another, respectively. Using the results of Bacon's equivalence between the Lusternik--Schnirelmann and Borsuk problems, several corollaries are obtained.

This paper introduces a run-and-tumble model with self-reinforcing directionality and rests. We derive a single governing hyperbolic partial differential equation for the probability density of random walk position, from which we obtain the second moment in the long time limit. We find the criteria for the transition between superdiffusion and diffusion caused by the addition of a rest state. The emergence of superdiffusion depends on both the parameter representing the strength of self-reinforcement and the ratio between mean running and resting times. The mean running time must be at least $2/3$ of the mean resting time for superdiffusion to be possible. Monte Carlo simulations validate this theoretical result. This work demonstrates the possibility of extending the telegrapher's (or Cattaneo) equation by adding self-reinforcing directionality so that superdiffusion occurs even when rests are introduced.

Special attention is paid to the measurements of muonic component of extensive air showers. Theoretical results of particle acceleration at shocks are also briefly reviewed. Future scientific and engineering plans on the array modernization are discussed.

The knowledge that data lies close to a particular submanifold of the ambient Euclidean space may be useful in a number of ways. For instance, one may want to automatically mark any point far away from the submanifold as an outlier or to use the geometry to come up with a better distance metric. Manifold learning problems are often posed in a very high dimension, e.g. for spaces of images or spaces of words. Today, with deep representation learning on the rise in areas such as computer vision and natural language processing, many problems of this kind may be transformed into problems of moderately high dimension, typically of the order of hundreds. Motivated by this, we propose a manifold learning technique suitable for moderately high dimension and large datasets. The manifold is learned from the training data in the form of an intersection of quadric hypersurfaces -- simple but expressive objects. At test time, this manifold can be used to introduce a computationally efficient outlier score for arbitrary new data points and to improve a given similarity metric by incorporating the learned geometric structure into it.

The research of our team has led to a series of new experimental results, revealing the so-called electromagnetic echo effect (EMEE). The EMEE signal is highly sensitive even to small changes in the composition and properties of the object under study - gas, liquid, or solid. The method is fast and contactless, provides real-time analysis, and can be considered universal. We have an idea to create a sensor to detect COVID-19 in three cases -- in the air, on hard surfaces, and in fluids from the human body. The approach involves detecting specific reactions to the virus, even if they are invisible without specialized equipment. Our experience shows that the EMEE signal is very sensitive to weak or practically imperceptible reactions. Therefore, we believe that it is quite possible to register the presence of COVID-19. We have many experimental results in this regard that support this idea. We have experience in creating sensors to monitor the processes, composition, and properties of fluids (including biological ones), as well as to detect pollution and contamination in the atmosphere.

In this work, we study the effect of dipole-dipole interparticle interactions on the static thermodynamic and magnetic properties of an ensemble of immobilized monodisperse superparamagnetic nanoparticles. We assume that magnetic nanoparticles are embedded in the nodes of a regular cubic lattice, so that the particle translational degrees of freedom are turned off. The relaxation of the magnetic moments of the nanoparticles occurs by the Neel mechanism. The easy axes are aligned (i) parallel or (ii) perpendicular to the direction of an external field. These models are investigated using theory and computer simulation, taking microscopic discrete structure explicitly into account. The analytical expressions of the Helmholtz free energy, the static magnetization, and the initial magnetic susceptibility are derived for both configurations (i) and (ii) as functions of the height of the magnetic crystallographic anisotropy energy barrier, measured by parameter $σ$, and the intensity of the dipole-dipole interparticle interactions measured by $λ_e$. A good agreement between the theory and the results of MC simulations in the region of low and moderate values of $λ_e$ and $σ$ is obtained. For high values of $λ_e$ and $σ$, the structuring of magnetic moments in regularly orientated structures was found from MC simulations for configuration (i).

The results of a simulation study to determine the expected spatial resolution of the system in the focal plane for the various radionuclides is presented. Effective triage is critical to mitigating the effect of increased volume by accurately determining patient acuity, need for resources, and establishing effective acuity-based patient prioritization. The purpose of this retrospective study was to determine whether historical EHR data can be extracted and synthesized with clinical natural language processing (C-NLP) and the latest ML algorithms (KATE) to produce highly accurate ESI predictive models. An ML model (KATE) for the triage process was developed using 166,175 patient encounters from two participating hospitals. The model was then tested against a gold set that was derived from a random sample of triage encounters at the study sites and correct acuity assignments were recorded by study clinicians using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) standard as a guide. At the two study sites, KATE predicted accurate ESI acuity assignments 75.9% of the time, compared to nurses (59.8%) and average individual study clinicians (75.3%). KATE accuracy was 26.9% higher than the average nurse accuracy (p-value < 0.0001). On the boundary between ESI 2 and ESI 3 acuity assignments, which relates to the risk of decompensation, KATE was 93.2% higher with 80% accuracy, compared to triage nurses with 41.4% accuracy (p-value < 0.0001). KATE provides a triage acuity assignment substantially more accurate than the triage nurses in this study sample. KATE operates independently of contextual factors, unaffected by the external pressures that can cause under triage and may mitigate the racial and social biases that can negatively affect the accuracy of triage assignment. Future research should focus on the impact of KATE providing feedback to triage nurses in real time, KATEs impact on mortality and morbidity, ED throughput, resource optimization, and nursing outcomes.

We give a simple proof of the Curtis' theorem: if $A_\bullet$ is $k$-connected free simplicial abelian group, then $L^n(A_\bullet)$ is an $k+ \lceil \log_2 n \rceil$-connected simplicial abelian group, where $L^n$ is the functor of $n$-th Lie power. In the proof we do not use Curtis' decomposition of Lie powers. Instead of this we use the Chevalley-Eilenberg complex for the free Lie algebra.

Moreover, we prove an analogue of Stallings' theorem: if $G\to G'$ is a 2-connected group homomorphism, then $\mathbb Z_\infty G\cong \mathbb Z_\infty G'.$ We give examples of $3$-manifolds $X,Y$ such that $ \hat{π_1(X)}\cong \hat{π_1( Y)}$ but $\mathbb Z_\infty π_1(X)\not \cong \mathbb Z_\infty π_1(Y).$ We prove that for a finitely generated group $G$ we have $(\mathbb Z_\infty G)/ γ_ω= \hat G.$ So the difference between $\hat G$ and $\mathbb Z_\infty G$ lies in $γ_ω.$ This allows us to treat $\mathbb Z_\infty π_1(X)$ as a transfinite invariant of $X.$ The advantage of our approach is that it can be used not only for $3$-manifolds but for arbitrary spaces.

This research focuses on interaction of ionization waves (IW) generated in long discharge tubes (1 m length and 1.5 cm in diameter) filled with neon or argon under pressure about 1 Torr and, in particular, on simplest case of such interference which is collision of the opposite directed IW of positive polarity. The waves were triggered from two electrodes of the tube by simultaneous application of the same high voltage pulse and propagated toward the tube center until their collision. Space and time stability of the collisions was achieved via decreasing time delay of the initial breakdowns which trigger IW by employment of both memory effect and photo-desorption of wall surface electrons. Significant memory effect occurred for the pulse repetition rate over 100Hz. Multiple IW transition from the electrode forms specific one-electrode discharge; as a result the problem of IW collision was transformed into the observation of two opposite one-electrode discharges interaction. Patterns of IW interfering were registered via deviation of their kinematic characteristics (x-t diagrams) from ones for non-collided wave. This method shows that two ionization waves travel toward each other with decreasing speeds and subsequent degradation of the emission. An area near the tube center where IWs emission was not detected was considered as the IW suppression zone. The zone width depends on voltage amplitude, gas type and pressure.

Abstract:
We propose a single neural probabilistic model based on variational autoencoder that can be conditioned on an arbitrary subset of observed features and then sample the remaining features in "one shot". The features may be both real-valued and categorical. Training of the model is performed by stochastic variational Bayes. The experimental evaluation on synthetic data, as well as feature imputation…

The features may be both real-valued and categorical. Training of the model is performed by stochastic variational Bayes. The experimental evaluation on synthetic data, as well as feature imputation and image inpainting problems, shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach and diversity of the generated samples.

A theory of higher colimits over categories of free presentations is developed. It is shown that different homology functors such as Hoshcshild and cyclic homology of algebras over a field of characteristic zero, simplicial derived functors, and group homology can be obtained as higher colimits of simply defined functors. Connes' exact sequence linking Hochschild and cyclic homology was obtained using this approach as a corollary of a simple short exact sequence. As an application of the developed theory it is shown that the third reduced $K$-functor can be defined as the colimit of the second reduced $K$-functor applied to the fibre square of a free presentation of an algebra. A Hopf-type formula for odd dimensional cyclic homology of an algebra over a field of characteristic zero is also proved.

Abstract:
Let $L=L(a,b)$ be a free Lie ring on two letters $a,b.$ We investigate the kernel $I$ of the map $L\oplus L \to L $ given by $(A,B)\mapsto [A,a]+[B,b].$ Any homogeneous element of $L$ of degree $\geq 2$ can be presented as $[A,a]+[B,b].$ Then $I$ measures how far such a presentation from being unique. Elements of $I$ can be interpreted as identities $[A(a,b),a]=[B(a,b),b]$ in Lie rings. The kernel…

Elements of $I$ can be interpreted as identities $[A(a,b),a]=[B(a,b),b]$ in Lie rings. The kernel $I$ can be decomposed into a direct sum $I=\bigoplus_{n,m} I_{n,m},$ where elements of $I_{n,m}$ correspond to identities on commutators of weight $n+m,$ where the letter $a$ occurs $n$ times and the letter $b$ occurs $m$ times. We give a full description of $I_{2,m};$ describe the rank of $I_{3,m};$ and present a concrete non-trivial element in $I_{3,3n}$ for $n\geq 1.$

This paper presents an approach for designing software for dynamical systems simulation. An algorithm is proposed to obtain a schedule for calculating each phase variable of a stiff system of differential equations. The problem is classified as a fixed-priority pre-emptive scheduling of periodic tasks. The Branch-and-Bound algorithm is modified to minimize the defined utilization function and to optimize the scheduling process for a numerical solver. A program for the experimental schedule is implemented solving a job-shop problem that proved the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
