Today, on R U OK? Day, we recognise that a conversation can change a life. Across our workplaces the Adbri team took a moment to ask those around us, “Are you okay?” and demonstrate that we are here to listen and support each other. Together, we can build a community of care and resilience. Remember that every day should be a day to ask, listen, encourage action, and check in!

The entrance to our Kwinana Upgrade project has been lit up with a new art installation called ‘Grounding’ by @Concreto. The new sculpture, commissioned by Cockburn Cement and installed as part of the industrial precinct art contribution plan, represents an abstraction of the process of cement manufacture. The configuration of the three sculptural forms interprets a grinding mechanism, with each form loosely representing the materiality of cement: limestone, clinker and clay. The patterning of the internal and external faces is derived from material sourced from site as well as investigations into the manufacturing process.

Penrice Quarry has been part of the Barossa community for over 100 years. In addition to providing essential quarry materials to support the South Australian construction, mining and agriculture sectors, it also supports the local community with in-kind donations. Recently the Adbri team had the pleasure of supporting two community projects – the Barossa Farmers Market and the Nuriootpa Primary School. As a result, the Barossa Farmers Market was able to upgrade its carpark to support year-round trading, while the school has been able to create a safe pathway into their new garden area. These are just some examples of how Adbri supports the local communities in which we operate.

The Kwinana skyline continues to evolve, with Silo E now successfully placed as part of Cockburn Cement’s Kwinana Upgrade project. A final silo is due to be placed in the coming weeks and then the large 600 tonne crane will then be removed from the site. Once completed the Kwinana Upgrade project will increase capacity from 1 mpta to 1.5 mpta – enough cement to build 77 new Optus Stadiums a year!

Adbri is proud to partner with the Doorway to Construction program to support new entrants into our industry. Recently our Klein Point quarry team had the opportunity host students onsite and provide hands-on experience that will ensure they get home safely each day. Under the watchful eye of the Doorway to Construction and the Adbri team, the students learnt about the risks of working at heights and how to safely manage them. The student ended their training by following Adbri’s life saving rule of “I will work at height with fall protection in place” by donning harnesses and safely putting their new knowledge into practice. Well done to everyone involved!
