The race to restore our coral reefs has never been more urgent. But if we are to succeed, we must massively scale restoration techniques to deploy more corals on more reefs than ever before. This week, as we celebrate McLaren’s win on the track, we also celebrate how this unique partnership is helping us accelerate coral restoration. By applying F1's speed and precision to environmental challenges, McLaren's Accelerator program aims to overcome scientific bottlenecks, scaling up deployment of heat-tolerant corals at unprecedented rates. Congratulations to Oscar Piastri on his win at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and to McLaren Racing who are now leading the Constructors' Championship. And thank you for partnering with us to apply elite engineering and technological skills beyond the podium as we work to protect and restore our beautiful Great Barrier Reef. Keen to understand more? 🌊 We're proud to work alongside so many dedicated partners in the Resilient Reefs Initiative to help create thriving reef ecosystems and communities in the Pacific and beyond. 💥Meet the changemakers: the Great Barrier Reef Foundation! 🐟 The Great Barrier Reef Foundation works to ensure the future of world’s coral reefs by protecting ocean habitats, restoring coral reefs and helping them adapt to the impacts of climate change. Why is their work needed? In 1998, the first mass coral bleaching event devastated the Great Barrier Reef, killing one in 12 of the world’s corals. To date, climate change has wiped out half the world’s coral reefs. 💡 In line with the challenges facing reef ecosystems and communities, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation established the Resilient Reefs Initiative, a different approach to business-as-usual planning. 📘 Learn more about Great Barrier Reef Foundation and its impressive work in delivering integrated reef and community resilience planning, at scale: https://lnkd.in/gn8xQhnG 🤝 Resilient Reefs is a collaboration with UNESCO, The Nature Conservancy’s Reef Resilience Network, Columbia Climate School, Resilient Cities Catalyst, AECOM and Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP). The changemaker series highlights the organizations, supported by BHP Foundation, that work on building solutions to complex social and environmental challenges.

Scientists often talk about the impacts of #climatechange that are “locked into the system”, but what does that actually mean? Find out how today's #emissions will be felt in the future, and what's likely in store for coral reefs https://ow.ly/FFk450TirfW

Congratulations Tourism Tropical North Queensland on this exciting new initiative to boost eco-conscious travel to our incredible Great Barrier Reef. We all have an important role to play in protecting the Reef, and visiting it responsibly is one way we can all help protect its future.
Travellers will be rewarded for learning about the Great Barrier Reef with the launch of the Guardian of the Reef platform today. Tourism Tropical North Queensland has partnered with Expedia Group in the United States and the United Kingdom to launch a world-first platform promoting eco-conscious travel choices. Tourism and Events Queensland has extended the campaign into Australia with Expedia. The Guardian of the Reef platform helps people to understand that visiting the Great Barrier Reef is the best thing they can do to help it. It was developed in consultation with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, blending science and environmental education with Indigenous wisdom and sustainable tourism experiences. Guardian of the Reef was launched in Los Angeles yesterday at a function hosted by TTNQ CEO Mark Olsen for 20 high-profile US media with GBR Biology Master Reef Guide Eric Fisher attending to talk to the media. Our partners in the project were also part of the event with Hannah Jenkins from the Australian Consulate-General in LA representing the Commonwealth Government of Australia who provided the funding for our international recovery that underpins this innovative initiative. Thanks to Supermassive for partnering with TTNQ on the concept development. Become a Guardian of the Reef: https://lnkd.in/gbDje_Ve

It is that time of year again - it's biodiversity month 🗓. Each September, we celebrate the rich biodiversity on our blue planet and the intricate web that connects us all. Dubbed the rainforests of the sea, coral reefs are thriving communities made up of thousands of diverse species, each with an important role in maintaining ocean health. Globally, coral reefs are home to more than 25% of all marine life. In the face of climate change, we must measure and monitor the Reef biodiversity we have and stand to lose. That's why we've joined forces with L'Oréal Groupe Fund for Nature Regeneration and the Australian Institute of Marine Science to develop a #biodiversity accounting method to drive investment into targeted actions. We were thrilled to launch phase 2 of our #ResilientReefs Initiative at the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in #Tonga yesterday. #Pacific Island nations are on the frontline of climate change. They have called for help scaling and accelerating local programs to protect coral reefs, and the communities that depend on them. Resilient Reefs Initiative Phase 2 (RRI2) will take a coordinated approach, bringing together community project owners, traditional knowledge, global technical experts and funders from around the world to help maximise impact. Resilient Reefs is partnering with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Pacific Coral Reef Action Plan. Resilient Reefs is also proud to be a partner initiative to the Unlocking Blue Pacific Prosperity (#UBPP) Initiative, which aims to support Pacific-led priorities and regional collective actions towards effective ocean management. The Resilient Reefs Initiative is funded by BHP Foundation. Find out more: https://ow.ly/b8GJ50T9lBp Pacific Community-SPC BHP Foundation Bezos Earth Fund #PIFLM53 #oneBluePacific #BluePacific
