Today is Wear it Purple Day 💜 This year, under the theme of 'Your Passion, Your Pride,' Wear it Purple Day will unite LGBTQIA+ youth and allies to shine a light on the thousands of schools, community organisations and workplaces that are coming together to create a more inclusive future. At Medibank, we're committed to fostering a workplace where everyone feels safe and respected, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Each year, we celebrate and recognise the meaning behind Wear It Purple Day, with the aim of bringing more awareness to the experiences of rainbow young people and their families. This year, the Rainbow Collective (Medibank’s employee pride network) marked the day with stalls across our offices to raise awareness on LGBTQIA+ mental health, showcase how D&I and the Rainbow Collective are working together to create a safe and inclusive place for LGBTQIA+ employees, and to promote our new LGBTQIA+ allyship video module. In true Paralympic spirit, meet Shelley Matheson, PLY. Shelley is a three-time Paralympian with the Australian Gliders, mum of two, and is Medibank's Inclusion Advisor. Shelley lives with Incomplete Paraplegia.   In addition to her sports career and her most important role as a mum, Shelley is also a passionate member of the Diversity, Inclusion, Sustainability and Community team at Medibank. Head of Financial Products Marketing & Operations, Charbel H. along with his team, is one of those who has been given ‘The Gift’ of an extra day to dedicate to whatever it is that gives him joy. For Charbel, this included taking on an investment course, building a new house and planning for his upcoming wedding. Our new After Hospital Home Care program is aimed at reducing hospital readmission rates for customers recently discharged from hospital and supporting them in the comfort of their own home. Our own data shows that 120,000 customers a year are readmitted back into hospital within 90 days, with a large portion within the first month and potentially avoidable. This equates to around 300,000 bed days, highlighting the opportunity to reduce service demand and burden on the health system. Through this program, our clinicians will respond to clinical deterioration, and identify other support needs that may arise during the recovery process. The service will be provided to all customers who are at high risk of re-admission, regardless of the level of hospital cover they have with us. This is another example of our commitment to delivering innovative models of care that respond to the demand pressures and operating challenges across the healthcare system.
