Day! 💛 In honor of this important day, Our Big Kitchen prepared a batch of delicious cupcakes for NSW Ambulance officers to distribute. 🍰🚑 We had the pleasure of supporting 30-40 dedicated ambulance crew members from the Artarmon station, who spent time with us, making the day even more meaningful. Honoring First Responders on the 23rd Anniversary of September 11 ---- Bondi, Australia — On this solemn occasion marking the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Our Big Kitchen (OBK) in Bondi hosted a poignant First Responders Remembrance Morning Tea led by Rabbi Dr. Dovid Slavin. The event brought together community leaders, first responders, and volunteers to honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who responded to the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Among the distinguished attendees were US Consul-General Christine Elder, Member of the NSW Parliament Matt Cross MP, and José Alberto Ortiz, Consul General of Peru in Sydney. They were joined by a broad representation of Australian emergency services including Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance, St John Ambulance (Vic), NSW Police Force, NSW Rural Fire Service, SES (State Emergency Service), and HMAS Watson Chapel. The morning tea served as a heartfelt tribute to the 2,977 innocent lives lost on that fateful day, including the 10 Australians among them. It also honored the 343 first responders who perished during the attacks and the thousands more who have since died from related health complications. In her speech, Consul General Christine Elder reflected on the resilience and unity that emerged from the tragedy, stating, “Today, we mourn the 2,977 innocent lives lost and honor the remarkable courage of our first responders. Their bravery and sacrifice remind us of the strength that can rise from adversity.” Rabbi Dr. Dovid Slavin, Founder of Our Big Kitchen, emphasized the importance of kindness and community spirit, urging everyone to embody these values in their daily lives. He also highlighted the role of Our Big Kitchen in preparing over 250,000 meals each year to support those in need, demonstrating the organization's commitment to serving the community. The event was also supported by volunteers from Cisco, with special thanks to Karen Balstrup for driving the partnership between Cisco and OBK.
