About
My interest in packaging started in 1984 while studying pharmacy after which I joined a pharmaceutical manufacturing company where I worked for 13 years. During this time I worked in packaging development and production management while completing a Masters of Manufacturing/Production; Manufacturing Systems Management.
I was then invited to join a confectionery/contract packaging company as their Director of Manufacturing while studying part time for my Master of Science Degree (Packaging Engineering/ Technology) from Brunel University, UK.
I have been National Chairman of the South African Institute of Packaging (IPSA), as well as President of the Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP). I am currently the Education Director for the AIP and President of the World Packaging Organisation.
I regularly attend international congresses and conferences where I deliver papers on various packaging subjects and stay abreast of the latest trends in packaging and manufacturing. I continue to judge international packaging competitions across all the continents.
I have lectured in the technology and science of packaging at various universities and institutions for the past 26 years. I am a professional member of the Australian Institute of Food, Science and Technology, an honorary member of IPSA, a Fellow of the AIP and a Certified Packaging Professional IoPP/AIP (USA and Australia). Professor of Packaging Engineering.
Packaging consulting business, PackTech Solutions Pty Ltd, servicing Australasia, Asia and sectors of Africa. My main focus is on finding solutions for packaging challenges and on cost saving projects for a wide range of companies. I am always astounded at how much companies unwittingly spend on unnecessary packaging and how much inappropriate packaging can cost a company. Audit packaging systems on your behalf. Speciality areas in Packaging: Economics, Pharmaceutical, Food, Confectionery, NPD management.

The true role of packaging in minimising food waste
Packaging has a very simple role; it protects products from damage, spoilage and contamination. Sadly, the current conversations have shifted the focus off the fact that packaging is at the forefront in the development of global food systems and serves an important function to transport food from paddock to the plate.
-
Packaging’s role in reducing food waste
Packworld
Packaging alone cannot fix this problem of food waste. However, it can make a significant difference in how much more food gets to the hungry.
