2012 Ballot Measure Election Results: Georgia

ATLANTA, Georgia: Georgia’s Amendment 1 and Amendment 2 were on the Georgia 2012 ballot on November 6, with voters casting their decisions on the issues.
Out of the 2 measures on the ballot, both were approved
Below is a breakdown of each measure:
Amendment 1
Amendment 1, the Georgia Charter Schools Amendment, appears on the November 6, 2012 ballot in Georgia to address the state legislature’s right to create special schools.
This legislatively referred constitutional amendment developed following a May 2011 ruling by the Georgia Supreme Court. In this ruling the Georgia Charter School Commission, the state’s involvement with public school establishment, was unconstitutional. The Commission was ruled illegal for approving and funding charter schools despite opposition from local school boards, but did not apply to the charter schools not opposed by the local boards.
This amendment change would give the state legislature the right to create special schools.
According to the Georgia’s Secretary of State’s website this measure has been approved with 58.50% voting yes and 41.50% voting no. Election results are not yet official, as a canvassing of the results will not be done until later this month.
Amendment 2
Amendment 2, the Georgia Multi-Year Rental Agreements Amendment, appears on the November 2012 ballot in Georgia to address authorities in multiyear lease agreements. This legislatively referred constitutional amendment gives the State Properties Commission the authority to enter into multiyear lease agreements.
According to the Georgia’s Secretary of State’s website this measure has been approved with 63.73% voting yes. Election results are not yet official, as a canvassing of the results will not be done until later this month.
