An effort in Leshara, Nebraska, to recall Trustees Dale Johnson and Dennis Beers was initiated in September 2019. Petitioners submitted enough signatures to put the recall election on the ballot. The recall did not go forward because the election couldn't be scheduled within a required 80-day time limit from when the recall was certified. The village board voted unanimously to schedule the election for February 4, 2020, but that date conflicted with state requirements that special elections must be set on the first Tuesday after the second Monday in the month.[1]
Recall supporters
The recall effort was organized by resident Michael Pettinger. Petitions against Johnson accused him of violating the Open Meetings Act. Petitions against Beers focused on a dispute over road maintenance.[1]

Pettinger filed the recall petition on September 18, 2019. He was required to submit signatures equal to 35 percent of the registered voters in the village.[1]
