An effort to recall Ann Boston, Scott Ferguson and Patti Hepola from their positions as trustees on the Butte School District Board of Trustees was rejected in May 2015. Butte Citizens Coalition, the group leading the recall effort, had a previous petition also rejected by the Silver Bow County Clerk and Recorder. Both were rejected due to issues with petition wording.[1]

Recall supporters

Arguments for recall

On their first petition, the Butte Citizens Coalition cited the following reasons for recall: "abuse of power, violation of oath of office, official misconduct, incompetence and failure to perform prescribed duties," according to The Montana Standard. Their second petition cited 17 district policies that were they said were not followed. They also said the targeted school board members broke a number of state and federal laws.[1]

List of supporters

Ray Becky, Michelle Michelotti, Sherry Carlson and Lisa Andrews signed the recall petitions that were rejected by the Silver Bow County Clerk and Recorder. Becky was an unsuccessful candidate in the last school board election and is Michelotti's father. Both Michelotti and Carlson applied for jobs as teachers in the district but were not hired. They ended up filing complaints against the district's hiring practices. Andrews also filed a complaint against the district. She previously worked as an administrative assistant and said she was retaliated against and harassed after reporting that the district improperly destroyed student records.[1]
