McDonald provided the following statement on her campaign website:

Clients, frustrated parents and residents, and underserved students in Flagler Schools… Several local clients found school days in Flagler County provide too much frustration. Our Flagler Schools’ achievement rate allows for too many disconnected learners, and provides remedial response rather than foundational development with developmentally appropriate instruction. The State rankings give a view to how FS rank inside Florida, yet that is just sampled standardized items, not life skills. I have worked with children, representing a full range of abilities, across this country and internationally. Regardless of strengths, all were able to improve performance by developing a solid physical foundation, which supports best functioning, emotional balance, and cognitive development. I know it can happen here – where “students first” policy can be the priority!
I bring a unique perspective and broad experience, among all candidates and those currently serving on the School Board, to elevate Flagler Schools to that ‘premier’ district status that we strive to achieve. The most important service a county provides is education. A quality school system is seen in demonstrated abilities of students and graduates, the vitality of the community, and the economic investments of businesses wanting to be part of well-rounded communities. My specialized trainings and work inside more than 20 districts, as a parent and professional, and on the school board in another, give me the unique understanding of the various contributions necessary from each part of a district to create and maintain an effective educational community.[3] |
