Mike Bonin
Mike Bonin was a member of the Los Angeles City Council in California, representing District 11. Bonin assumed office in 2013. Bonin left office on December 12, 2022.
Bonin ran for re-election to the Los Angeles City Council to represent District 11 in California. Bonin won in the primary on March 7, 2017.
Biography
Bonin completed a B.A. in history at Harvard University in 1989. His professional experience includes working on the staffs of several Los Angeles City Council members and the staff of Congresswoman Jane Harman (D). Bonin was also a regional field organizer in California for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and was the co-founder and program director of Camp Courage, a leadership training program focused on same-sex marriage advocacy and LGBT issues.[1]
Elections
2017
The city of Los Angeles, California, held primary elections for mayor, eight city council seats, city attorney, and city controller on March 7, 2017. Three community college board of trustees seats were also up for general election on that date.
Most races where no candidate earned a majority (50% plus one) of the primary votes cast advanced to a general election on May 16, 2017. This rule did not apply to the community college board races, which were determined by a plurality winner in the March election.[2]
This election was the second impacted by Charter Amendment 1. Passed in March 2015, the amendment shifted city elections to even-numbered years beginning in 2020. As a result, officials elected in 2017 won special five-and-a-half year terms ending in 2022. Incumbent Mike Bonin defeated Mark Ryavec and Robin Rudisill in the primary election for the District 11 seat on the Los Angeles City Council.[3]

2017
Bonin had received $432,156.92 in contributions and had made $301,239.07 in expenditures, leaving the campaign with $236,463.76 on hand as of reports available from the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission on February 27, 2017.[4]
