A Smithville School District Tax Levy question was defeated on the April 2, 2013 election ballot in Clay, Clinton and Platte Counties, which are in Missouri.
If approved, this measure would have authorized the Smithville School District to impose a increase property taxes by 9.175 mills ($9.175 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) for 25 years in order to fund construction, expansion, equipping, operating and improving school facilities as outlined below in the text of the question. This would result in a total operating tax levy of 43.623 mills ($43.623 per $1,000 of assessed valuation).[1]

Text of the question:
" | To provide funds for constructing, improving, expanding, equipping, operating and maintaining school facilities, including a third elementary school, additional classrooms at the high school, and security and entrance improvements at all District buildings, shall the Board of Education of the Smithville R-II School District be authorized to increase the District’s operating tax levy ceiling by $0.9175 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation for a period of 25 years?
If this question is approved, the operating tax levy ceiling of the District is estimated to increase from $3.4448 to $4.3623 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation. |
