The EU is finalising its Delegated Act on Low Carbon Fuels, a critical piece of its #hydrogen policy framework. This is more than just policy; it will lay the ground for Europe's future hydrogen industry and significantly impact how it delivers on its climate goals.   Why it matters: ✅ The EU is investing billions in its H2 economy, positioning itself as a leader in the clean energy transition. ✅ Establishing what qualifies as “renewable hydrogen” will influence whether EU hydrogen helps rather than hinders the energy transition. ✅ CO2 isn’t the only climate-warming gas: both methane and hydrogen matter too.   Robust methodology is needed to ensure emissions reductions. It should: 1️⃣ Account for all climate-warming emissions, including often-overlooked H2 and methane leakage. 2️⃣ Implement interim solutions and adapt to new data as it becomes available. 3️⃣ Take a realistic approach to CCS, based on actual capture rates. 4️⃣ Assess full lifecycle emissions based on real-world data rather than estimates.   The Earth’s hottest day on record was recorded in July, underscoring the dangers of our energy-driven emissions. The EU aims to be the first climate-neutral continent but faces challenges from greenhouse gas emissions, global competition, and energy security. The net zero transition is the UK’s most significant economic opportunity - capable of adding £57 billion to UK #GDP by 2030 if the right steps are taken.
